The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 76 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Tuesday taking the total number of the affected cases to 1,596 so far including the active, recovered, and discharged patients.
The state has been witnessing the fluctuating graph with the rise and fall in the total number of cases each day amid the measures taken by the government to flatten the curve. The state has also reported a fresh fatality on Tuesday through which the death toll stands at 18 so far. The state health department has issued the official figures for the day putting out the latest developments.

As per the official statement, Tamil Nadu has tested 53,045 samples so far including 6,060 that were tested on Tuesday of which 76 returned positive taking the total numbers to 1,596. According to the official figures, it can be learned that the state has recorded the highest number of discharges on Tuesday as 178 people have been recovered and discharged from the hospital and the current number of total discharges stands at 635 so far.
The state currently houses 33 testing facilities for COVID-19 of which 23 centers are installed by the government while ten belong to private. The official data said that 22,254 people have been under home quarantine while 145 people are isolated in the government quarantine facilities. Of the fresh cases, 55 belong to Chennai as the capital city has been adding more cases to its count. Currently, Chennai has over 350 cases.
On Monday, the state reported 43 positive cases and two fatalities. Pudukottai district has reported its first COVID-19 case while the districts of Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri hadn't reported any positive case for the virus. Vijayabaskar further stated that Tamil Nadu is still in the second stage and no community transmission has been reported.
As of Tuesday evening, the state reported 1,596 positive cases of which 943 are active patients, 635 have been discharged while 18, included the latest one fatality, had died of Coronavirus. On Monday, the state government has decided to continue the lockdown till May 3 with no relaxations to curb the spread of the pandemic.
