The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 600 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Friday through which the state crossed 6000 cases by reporting 6,009 cases so far including the active, discharged, and deceased patients.
With the current reporting, the state has recorded 1,100 cases in the past two days and over 4000 cases within a fortnight amid the lockdown and restrictions. The state health department has put out the official press release on the latest developments concerning the outbreak in the state.
According to the press release, the state has tested 2,16,416 samples so far including 13,980 that were tested on Friday of which 600 returned positive taking the total number of affected cases to 6,009. Of these 600, 405 are male patients while the rest 195 are females.

The release stated that 399 belong to Chennai, 75 belong to Tiruvallur, 34 belong to Cuddalore, 26 belong to Chengalpattu, 21 belong to Villupuram, 11 belong to Thiruvannamalai, eight each from Kancheepuram and Kanyakumari, four from Tirunelveli, three from Virudhunagar, two each from Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, and Madurai, and one each from Ramanathapuram, Tenkasi, Theni, Tirupattur, and Trichy.
The state has reported 58 fresh discharges taking the total number of discharges to 1,605 and three fresh fatalities through which the death toll currently stands at 40. The press release said that a 78-year-old male and a 56-year-old male had passed away due to the virus in Rajiv Gandhi Hospital in Chennai while an 83-year-old male had succumbed to virus at Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital.
According to the press release, most of the cases that were tested positive on Friday had linked to the Koyambedu cluster. Chennai continues to add more positive cases each day to its count and with the current reporting of 399 cases, the capital city has recorded 3043 cases so far and that's 50% of the total affected cases in the state.
As of Friday evening, the state has reported 6,009 positive cases so far of which 4,361 are active, 1,605 have been discharged, and 40 had succumbed to the virus.
