Corona outbreak: Tamil Nadu reports 58 fresh cases and one more fatality!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 58 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) in its territory on Saturday putting the total number of affected cases to 969 so far including the active, recovered, and deceased patients.

Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Shanmugam has addressed the reporters concerning the latest developments minutes after the conclusion of the state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami where the ministers discussed extending the lockdown to curb the spread of the virus.

 

Shanmugam said that the state government would act accordingly with the announcement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the lockdown and stated that Tamil Nadu has reported with 58 fresh cases tested positive for the virus and the state has also recorded a fresh fatality taking the death toll to 10. A male who was getting treated for the virus had died on Saturday.

The state has been adding nearly 50 to 70 cases per day on average to its count since March 31st, 2020. The Chief Secretary divulged that the Chief Minister has suggested the Central government to extend the lockdown for two more weeks during the video-conferencing meet convened by the Prime Minister on Saturday. The reports say it has been highly speculated that the state government would keep the role of embargo and restrictions throughout April to battle against the global pandemic.

As of Saturday evening, the state has reported with 969 positive cases of which 915 are active patients, 44 have been recovered and discharged while ten have succumbed to the virus. These active cases include Indians and foreign nationals and getting treated across the state and most of the positive cases have attended the Tablighi Jamaat Conference that was organized in Delhi last month. With the current numbers, Chennai has reported with the most number of cases in Tamil Nadu. The capital currently houses 182 cases including the ten which reported on Saturday.
