The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 54 positive cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Thursday taking the total number of affected cases to 1,683 so far in its territory including the active, recovered, and deceased patients. Along with the reporting of the fresh cases, the state has also recorded two more fatalities who succumbed to the virus amid the lockdown and restrictions.
The state health department has put out the latest developments concerning the outbreak in the state through the official press release which has indicated that more cases have been reported than Wednesday. According to the press release, the state has tested 59,952 people so far including 6,880 that were tested on Thursday, of which 54 have been confirmed to have contracted with the virus taking the total numbers to 1,683.

The official release has revealed that 23,303 people have been put under home quarantine on Thursday while 106 people are admitted at the isolation wards of the government quarantine facilities. The state has recorded two fresh fatalities that had taken the death toll to 20 so far. However, the health department hasn't disclosed further information about fatalities.
The state has also reported one of the highest numbers of discharges as 90 people have recovered and discharged from the hospital on Thursday contributing to a rise in the total number of discharges that currently stands at 752. On the other hand, 1,787 people have been admitted to the isolation wards after suspected to have positive symptoms for the virus.
According to the reports, of these fresh 54 cases, 27 belong to Chennai, 5 belong to Salem, 4 belong to Namakkal, 3 each from Dindigul and Virudhunagar, 2 belong to Madurai, and one each from Chengalpattu, Dharmapuri, Ramanathapuram, Tenkasi, Thanjavur, Tirunelveli, Tirupattur, Tiruppur, Tiruvarur, and Villupuram. At the current stage, Dharmapuri has marked its first case affected by the virus while Krishnagiri is the only district that has reported no positive case.
As of Thursday evening, the state reported 1,683 positive cases of which 908 are active patients, 752 have been discharged while 20, including two fresh fatalities, had succumbed to the virus. On Monday, the state government has decided to continue the lockdown till May 3 with no relaxations to curb the spread of the pandemic.
