The state of Tamil Nadu has witnessed a sudden climb in the total number of the Coronavirus infected cases on Tuesday as the day has closed by reporting 57 fresh cases tested positive for the virus in its territory taking the total number of cases to 124 including the active, recovered, and deceased patients.
Of these 57 cases, seven were reported in the morning hours of Wednesday while the rest 50 have reported in the evening hours by marking the state to record the highest single-day rise in the total number of cases amid the complete lockdown and severe restrictions. According to state health minister Vijayabaskar, the fresh 50 cases include 45 patients who have travel history to Delhi where they attended the Jamaat conference. Of these 45, 22 are from Tirunelveli, 18 from Namakkal, 4 from Kanyakumari and one belongs to Tuticorin district.

The Health Minister asserted that the patients are isolated for treatment and doing stable. According to the reports, the Tablighi Jamaat movement has organized a conference in Delhi in March amid the outbreak and over two thousand people, including Indians and foreign nationals, had said to have participated in the conference after which the most of the asymptomatic people have traveled across the country with many arriving in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Karnataka. On Tuesday, Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Beela Rajesh said that of the fresh 50 cases, 45 have attended the conference. Nearly 1500 people from the state had attended the conference and 1,130 people have returned to the state while the rest stayed back in Delhi due to the nationwide lockdown.
Of these huge numbers, the state has identified 515 people who returned from the conference and they have been kept under home quarantine and the health department is in process of tracing remaining people in the state who attended the conference. The Health Secretary has asked the remaining people in the state to report to the hospitals themselves with the view of the safety of their own families and the public. She added that the department is carrying out door to door survey in the districts to locate the patients who participated in the conference, that held in the second week of March.

On March 27th, the state had reported with 35 cases positive for the virus. However, in the span of four days, the state added 90 more cases to its count bringing the total to 124. Although the state has been brought under complete lockdown to contain the spread, the cases have been soaring each day with the most number of infected patients have directly or indirectly linked with the Jamaat Conference in Delhi.
As of Tuesday, the state reported with 124 cases and of these 124, 118 are active with most numbers of patients in Erode, Tirunelveli, Namakkal, and Chennai and five have been recovered and discharged from the hospitals while one patient - a 54-year-old man had died due to the virus on last Wednesday making the state to record its first fatality and the deceased man has also attended the Jamaat conference in Delhi. Over 16 districts in the state have affected by the pandemic and the active cases include Indian nationals and foreign nationals and are getting treated under isolation at the various hospitals in the state.
