Corona outbreak: Tamil Nadu reports 447 fresh cases and two more fatalities!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 447 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Thursday taking the total number of affected cases to 9,674 so far in its territory including the active, discharged, and deceased patients. The state has also recorded two fresh fatalities and the death toll currently stands at 66.

According to the official press release issued by the state health department, the state has tested 2,91,432 samples so far including 11, 965 that were tested on Thursday of which 447 returned positive for the virus and this includes 253 males and 194 female patients.     

 

The press release stated that of these 447 cases, 363 belong to Chennai, 15 belong to Thiruvallur, nine belong to Chengalpattu, eight each from Kancheepuram, and Tiruvannamalai, five belong to Kanyakumari, four belong to Perambalur, and one each from Dindigul, Ramanathapuram, Tenkasi, and Theni.

Sixteen belong of Tirunelveli of which 13 returned to the district from other regions ( 11 from Maharashtra and two from Qatar), nine belong to Madurai of which seven returned from Maharashtra, three belong to Thoothukudi of which two returned from Maharashtra, two belong to Karur of which one returned from Maharashtra, one belongs to Sivagangai who returned from Maharashtra. In current reporting, 24 people have returned to Tamil Nadu from beyond the borders.

The state has also reported 64 fresh discharges through which the total number of discharges raised to 2,240 so far and the state has also recorded two fresh fatalities and the state's death toll currently stands at 66. According to the press release, a 43-year-old male and a 45-year-old female had died due to a virus at Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital in Chennai. Both the fatalities belong to Chennai and they had been identified to have suffered from the co-morbid conditions.

With the current reporting of 363 cases, Chennai has recorded 5,637  positive cases so far in its territory which is the highest number in the state and the city has contributed over 50% of the total affected cases in the state.

As of Thursday evening, the state has reported 9,674 positive cases so far of which 7,365 are active, 2,240 have been discharged, and 66 had succumbed to the virus. Tamil Nadu would be the second Indian state to cross 10,000 cases after Maharashtra, which has reported 25,922 cases so far as of Thursday, according to the Union Health Ministry.
