The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 33 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Wednesday taking the total number of infected cases to 1,629 so far in its territory amid the complete lockdown and restrictions and the total number includes the active, recovered, and deceased patients.
According to the official figures issued by the state health department, Tamil Nadu has tested 59,023 samples so far including 5,978 tested on Wednesday of which 33 returned positive taking the total to 1,629. As per the official statement, 23,760 people have currently been under home quarantine while 155 are isolated at the government facilities. Through the official figures, it can be learned that the state has reported no fatality.

Of these fresh 33 cases, 15 belong to Chennai, 5 belong to Thanjavur, 4 belong to Madurai, two each from Ariyalur and Tiruvallur, and one each from Dindigul, Kancheepuram, Tiruvannamalai, Trichy, and Villupuram. Besides the data, the health department hasn't disclosed the source of infection and where they have been admitted. Chennai has been housing the most number of cases in Tamil Nadu as the capital city has reported over 370 cases so far.
Pudukottai has reported one case so far while the districts like Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri have reported no cases in its respective territories. The state has seen a nearly 50% decrease in the number of fresh cases compared to Tuesday. On Tuesday, the state added 76 fresh cases in its count along with a fatality and it also has recorded the highest number of discharges as 178 people had recovered and discharged from the hospital.
On Wednesday, the state reported with 27 discharges taking the total number to 662 so far while 1,878 people, who have been suspected to be infected by the virus, admitted at the isolation wards. Earlier, Tamil Nadu Health Minister asserted that the state is still in the second stage and no community transmission has been reported.
As of Wednesday evening, the state reported 1,629 positive cases of which 946 are active patients, 662 have been discharged while 18 had succumbed to the virus. On Monday, the state government has decided to continue the lockdown till May 3 with no relaxations to curb the spread of the pandemic.
