The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 104 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Wednesday taking the total number of affected cases to 2,162 so far in its territory including the active, recovered, and deceased patients. Along with reporting one of the highest single-day rises of the positive cases, the state has also recorded two more fatalities taking the death toll to 27 so far.
According to the official bulletin issued by the state health department, the state has tested 1,09,961 samples so far including 8,087 that were tested on Wednesday of which 104 confirmed to have contracted with the virus taking the affected cases to 2,162.
Of these 104, 63 are males while 41 are female patients and 94 belong to Chennai, four belong to Chengalpattu, three belong to Kancheepuram, two are from Villupuram, while one belongs to Tiruvallur.
The current reporting has recorded as one of the highest single-day rises and the state has reported more than a hundred cases for the second consecutive day amid the lockdown and restrictions that have been imposed to flatten the curve of COVID-19 affected cases. The press release stated that 30, 580 people are currently under home quarantine while 48 are kept under the government quarantine facilities.
According to the press release, the state has reported 82 fresh discharges through which the current number of discharges stands at 1,210 and there were two fresh fatalities who succumbed to the virus on Wednesday putting the total number of the death toll at 27. Chennai has been witnessing soaring high cases each day as it continues to top the table with the most number of positive cases in the state.
The capital city has reported 768 positive cases for the virus amid the preventive measures. Following Chennai, Coimbatore has reported 141 cases, Tiruppur has reported 112 cases while Krishnagiri continues to be the only district in the state with no positive case since the outbreak. As of Wednesday evening, the state has reported 2,162 positive cases of which 922 are active patients, 1,210 have been discharged while 27, including the two fresh fatalities, had succumbed to the virus.
