Tamil Nadu has added 31 fresh cases that were tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) on Tuesday taking the total number of infected cases to 1,204 so far in its territory including the active, recovered, and deceased patients. The reporting of 31 cases has been recorded as the lowest single-day rise in the number of cases in the state since March 31st.
In her daily briefing, Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Beela Rajesh has divulged the latest developments concerning the outbreak in the state amid the complete lockdown. She said that Tamil Nadu has reported with 31 new cases on Tuesday and of these 31, 21 people have been tested positive for the virus due to the single source event - Tablighi Jamaat Conference that was organized in Delhi. The rest ten cases include - one patient had interstate travel history while the remaining nine cases have turned out to be positive after coming to direct contact with already infected patients.

She stated that the 31 cases include 16 females and 15 males. The state has tested the samples of 19,255 people and 28,711 people across the state have been kept under home quarantine while 135 people are getting treated at the isolation facilities in the hospitals. According to the Health Secretary, of these 31 cases, nine belong to Dindigul, five belong to Chennai, four belong to Tanjore, three belong to Tenkasi, two each from Madurai, Ramanathapuram, and Nagapattinam, and one each from Cuddalore, Salem, Sivaganga, and Kanyakumari.
She further stated that the total number of positive cases includes 33 patients who are under the age of 10 and the state has recorded 81 recoveries so far. Along with 31 cases, the state has also reported one fresh fatality on Tuesday as a 96-year-old man, who was getting treated in the government hospital, Karur, had passed away due to the virus following which the state has marked its 12th fatality succumbed to the virus. The reports stated that the deceased man belongs to Dindigul and he was admitted to the Karur Government hospital on April 9th.
However, he was suffering from breathing problems and declared dead at 6.40 am on Tuesday. Tuesday's count has been the lowest since March 31st as earlier, the state had been reporting 60 to 70 cases in an average per day. With the current numbers, Tamil Nadu is the third Indian state to have the most positive cases after Maharashtra and Delhi that had reported 2337 and 1510 respectively, according to the Union Health Ministry.
As of Tuesday evening, the state has reported 1,204 positive cases of which 1,111 are active patients while 81 people have been recovered and discharged and twelve have succumbed to the virus. Most of the positive cases include both Indian and foreign nationals, have been directly linked to the Jamaat conference organized in Delhi.
