Corona outbreak: Tamil Nadu adds 110 fresh cases bringing the total to 234!

The state of Tamil Nadu has reported 110 fresh cases positive for the virus on Wednesday which has become the highest single-day rise in the total number of the affected cases so far by surpassing the preceding tallies and the reporting of hundred cases at one shot had contributed towards dramatically increasing the total number of affected cases to 234 including the active, recovered, and deceased patients.

With the current numbers, Tamil Nadu has become the third Indian state to report with the most number of cases after Maharashtra (302), and Kerala (241) and the state has been witnessing surging high cases for the past few days. On March 27th, the state reported 35 cases and in the span of four days, the state has added 200 cases to its count with the average of fifty cases per day amid the territory has been brought under complete lockdown and restrictions.

 

While addressing the reporters concerning the developments, Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Beela Rajesh has revealed that the state has 110 fresh cases. She stated that all these 110 cases have attended the Jamaat Conference that was organized in Delhi last month. According to the state government, over 1,500 people from Tamil Nadu had attended the conference that saw the presence of people from various virus-hit countries including Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Of these 1,500 people, 1,100 had returned to the state after the conference along with the foreign nationals to work in the mosques while remaining stayed in Delhi due to the nationwide lockdown.

The state has been reporting more number of cases that were directly or indirectly linked to the Jamaat Conference as Two Thai Nationals, who attended the conference tested positive for the virus and admitted at Erode while four Indonesians from the conference tested positive for the virus and getting treated at Salem. Secretary Beela Rajesh stated that of these 234 cases, 190 cases have participated in the conference. The latest 110 cases include 28 people who belong to Coimbatore, 20 belong to Theni, 17 belong to Dindigul, nine belong to Madurai, seven each in Thirupattur, and Chengalpattu.

Six belong to Tirunelveli, five from Sivaganga, two each from Kancheepuram, Tiruvarur, Erode, and Thoothukudi, and one each from Chennai, Karur, and Thiruvannamalai. The state currently has 19 affected districts while earlier it was 16 as 190 cases belong to 19 districts. Earlier, the state government has appealed to the people who returned from the Delhi conference to come forward and declare themselves for the sake of the safety of themselves, their families, and society.

 

Health Secretary Beela Rajesh said that the people who attended the conference have come forward and reached out to the government for further tests and treatments. She further stated that the health department is in the process to quarantine the people residing near to the people who returned from Delhi. She added that the state has tested 2,726 samples so far and 234 samples were tested positive and the latest 110 cases include one each from Myanmar and Indonesia. On Tuesday, the state reported 57 positive cases that were the highest-single day rise previously.

As of Wednesday noon, the state has 234 cases so far of which 227 are active while six have been recovered and one had died to the pandemic last Wednesday making the state record its first fatality. These active cases are getting treated at various hospitals in the state amid the curfew and the complete lockdown.
