Corona outbreak: India records surging high cases amid the restrictions!

Amid the preventive measures and tight restrictions that have been rolled out to contain the spread of the Coronavirus in the country, India has been reporting with soaring high cases in its territory driving the country towards uncertainty over combating the virus, which has emerged as a global pandemic from being the Wuhan epicentric virus.

As of Saturday noon, India has recorded 271 positive cases, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research, and four deaths due to the outbreak. According to the reports, about 60 fresh cases were reported in various parts of the country on Friday and these 271 positive cases include nearly 40 foreign nationals who have been tested positive for the global menace in India. The latest numbers show that the state of Maharashtra has reported with more cases (52) in the country followed by Kerala (40), Delhi (26), Uttar Pradesh (24), Haryana, Rajashthan, J&K and Ladakh had reported with 17 cases each while Telangana and Karnataka has recorded 19 and 16 cases respectively.

The country has marked four deaths so far - each in Karnataka, Delhi, Maharashtra, and Punjab earlier this month. The busy and congested streets of Mumbai, the financial capital of India, turned quiet as the city has been locking itself down to contain the spread. Maharashtra, the worst-hit state, has put its cities Pune, Nagpur, and Mumbai under lockdown and all the workplaces, apart from essential services, will remain closed till March 31st. On Saturday, Pune has reported with two fresh cases for the virus taking the total count to 23 in the city. Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope appealed to the people to practice social distancing to contain the spread.

Similar restrictions have been imposed in Delhi to avoid getting into the risk. On Saturday, AIIMS New Delhi has announced that it would postpone all the non-essential elective procedures and surgeries and the Delhi government has ordered to shut down the schools, malls, theaters, and major public areas. In Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that nine people who earlier tested positive have been recovered and he also asked the state ministers to work from home and the state government would provide financial assistance of Rs 1,000 each to the laborers. The Uttar Pradesh police have registered a case against Bollywood singer Kanika Kapoor for her negligence and committing acts to spread the virus as after tested positive for the virus, she attended three gatherings in Lucknow including a party attended by the political leaders.

On Saturday, according to the reports, a woman who had a travel history to Scotland has been tested positive for the epidemic in West Bengal while Rajasthan has imposed section 144 in its city of Jhunjhunu. Karnataka health minister Sriramulu said that a 32-year-old man with the travel history to Mecca has confirmed with positive for the virus and he has now been isolated and one more person tested positive for the virus in Gujarat making the state to record its eighth case. Various Indian states have been imposed with widespread restrictions and lockdown to combat the virus.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has, on Thursday, appealed to the people to stay indoors on Sunday from 7 am to 9 pm as part of the Janata curfew. Modi held a video call conference with the Chief Ministers of various states on Friday during which he reviewed the mechanisms to contain the spread. The Indian government has suspended over 3700 trains on Sunday and India has closed its airports to all the international passenger aircraft from March 22nd for one week. Many states including Tamil Nadu had suspended bus and metro rail services as part of Janata curfew with the view of practicing social distancing and avoiding mass gatherings. Tamil Nadu has reported with three positive cases so far with one being recovered and the other two have been quarantined.

On Saturday, Air India has decided to wheel up a 787 Dreamliner aircraft to Rome, Italy to rescue the stranded Indians including students in the European country. Italy has become the worst virus country in the world with over 4000 deaths in its territory - on Friday, it recorded 627 deaths in a single day. Earlier on Saturday, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs has issued advisories to the Indian nationals living in Finland, Estonia, Vietnam, and the United States to stay safe and isolated towards preventing the spread of the global pandemic.
