Corona outbreak: India has reported 38 fatalities and over 1600 cases!

In the middle of the nationwide lockdown that has been imposed to flatten the curve and to accelerate the pace of countering and combating the Coronavirus, which has been labeled as the global pandemic, India has been adding more positive cases affected by the virus that had increased the death toll in the country.

India has passed one week of its complete lockdown period that would be in place till April 14th, 2020 to contain the spread of the contagion. On Wednesday, the Union Ministry of Health and Social Welfare officially announced that the country has reported with 1637 cases that were tested positive so far and the death toll currently stands at 38. While addressing the reporters, Lav Agarwal, the joint secretary of the Health Ministry said that India has accounted for 386 positive cases that were reported in its territory in the last 24 hours - the highest single-day rise in the country.

 

He stated that the number of positive cases has gone up since Tuesday and added that one of the main reasons for the increase in the cases was the travel made by the members who attended the Jamaat Conference in Delhi last month. Of the current positive cases, 132 people have recovered and discharged from hospitals across the country.

According to the Health Ministry, the state of Maharashtra, which is India's richest state, tops the table with the most number of affected cases and deaths in India. As of Wednesday noon, the state reported with 302 cases including nine deaths and 39 recoveries. Kerala holds second place with 241 cases including 23 recoveries and two deaths followed by Tamil Nadu which has reported with 124 cases including 4 cases and one death. The states like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka have recorded three figured numbers in the respective territories.

Lav Agarwal further stated that 1800 people who have direct or indirect links with the Jamaat Conference organized in Delhi have admitted to nine hospitals and quarantine centers across the country. The reports say that the conference organized by Tablighi Jamaat has become the epicenter for the virus in India as thousands of the participants including Indians and foreign nationals who are asymptomatic have scattered to various Indian states and cities particularly to Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.

Agarwal stated that Railways is preparing to install 3.2 lakh isolation and quarantine beds by modifying 20,000 coaches as temporary facilities and currently the modification of 5000 coaches is under process. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the nation has conducted 47,951 tests so far and the council has 126 labs nationwide under its network. ANI has reported that the Civil Aviation has granted special permission to carry out the cargo operations using passenger aircraft during the lockdown period to transport the essential commodities like testing kits, medicines, and masks across the country.
