India has lost its first doctor to the Coronavirus pandemic on Thursday as a 62-year-old physician has passed away due to the virus in Indore, Madhya Pradesh amid the preventive measures and complete lockdown that have been imposed to contain the spread of the virus in the territory.
The deceased was identified as Dr.Shatrughan Panjwani and he was a general physician. According to the reports, he tested positive for the virus four days ago in Indore and admitted to Arvindo Medical College Hospital in the city where he breathed his last on Thursday making the nation to mark the first case where a doctor has passed away due to the virus.
The deceased doctor was not treating the virus-hit patients and most of his patients belong to the slums and lower-income groups and he used to give up from collecting the fees from the patients who can't afford to pay. Panjwani was surviving with his wife and three sons who are currently living in Australia.
The reports stated that Indore has become one of the hard-hit cities in Madhya Pradesh. The city has reported 229 cases and 13 deaths in its limits so far leading the state government to seal and barricade the hotspots in Indore to contain further spread. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has directed to seal the hotspots of the outbreak in Indore, Ujjain, and Bhopal.
According to the official data issued by the Union Ministry of Health, India has reported 5734 positive cases so far as of Thursday morning and of these positive cases, 473 have been recovered while 166 patients have succumbed to the virus.
