On Friday, the Coimbatore police department has detained Healer Baskar, who has proclaimed himself as a medical practitioner, for reportedly airing falsified information and spreading rumors over the Coronavirus (COVID19) at the high time when the state and country have been combating the virus amid the soaring high cases.

Healer Baskar has caught up with the controversy earlier after releasing videos about performing home-based delivery and while the nation has been tightening its mechanisms to contain the global pandemic, Baskar, in an audio clip, claimed that the outbreak of the Coronavirus is a depopulation measure carried out as per the directions of 'Illuminati' and he stated that the people who have isolated and kept under quarantine would be eliminated.

After airing such a clip amid the outbreak, the Coimbatore district health department has moved to District Collector Rajamani to seek appropriate action against Healer Baskar. The Health Department has stated that he has reportedly spurred up the fear and panic among the people over the epidemic. 

The reports have stated that the audio clip had gone viral across social media and he further added that Tamil Nadu would encounter a condition that is similar to China, Germany, and Italy - some of the worst countries hit by the virus. By citing the outbreak as a third world war, he said that the state health department will knock every door to quarantine people.

With accord to the complaint filed by the Health Department, Coimbatore police had on Friday arrested Healer Baskar in Kuniyamuthur, Coimbatore and booked him under the grounds of the Tamil Nadu Public Health Act 1939 and Disaster Management Act 2005. The court has ordered the police to take him under judicial custody till April 3, 2020.
