Amid the precautions and preventive mechanisms that have been put in place to contain the spread of the Coronavirus, Chennai has reported with the second positive case for the global pandemic as the state health department has issued the conformity on the development on Wednesday.
According to the state health department, the patient was identified as a 20-year-old and he has a travel history to Delhi. The department stated that he has been quarantined and kept under observation in Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) in Chennai. He is doing stable and he will be discharged after the two consecutive samples return negative.

The reports say that the people who came direct contact with the patient have now been kept under home quarantine to contain the spread. This teenager has arrived in the city on March 12th through the train and he got admitted to the hospital on March 17 after developing the symptoms and on Wednesday, the results returned positive after which he has been isolated in the government general hospital. Tamil Nadu Health Minister Vijayabaskar took to Twitter and confirmed that Chennai has reported with the second positive case for COVID19.
He further stated that the patient has been in isolation and under the observation of the team of experts treating the epidemic. Hours before reporting with the second case, Vijayabaskar announced that the state has installed four isolation centers - one each in Chennai, Madurai, Trichy, and Coimbatore. As per the reports, these centers house 40 people under quarantine as on Tuesday. While addressing the reporters on Wednesday, the Health Minister has asked the people to avoid traveling and to avoid the risk of the spread.
The city has reported with a second positive case exactly one day after the first case was discharged from the hospital. On Tuesday, a 45-year-old man, who is the native of Kancheepuram, was discharged from the Rajiv Gandhi hospital after two consecutive samples that were collected from him in 24-hour intervals returned negative. He has arrived in the city from Muscat, Oman and he was admitted at the hospital after developing the symptoms and on March 7th, he was tested positive for the virus, making him the first positive case in the state. At the current stage, the state has one positive case in its territory. As on Thursday morning, India has reported 167 positive cases so far.
