The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has on Friday announced that it has postponed the current Indian Premier League season that was scheduled from March 29th and the announcement has come amid the speculations whether this year's IPL edition would be played due to Coronavirus outbreak that has now become a global pandemic.
In its announcement, the BCCI has stated that the season would mark its start on April 15th. Earlier, the BCCI has decided to flag the current edition which is 13th season of IPL on March 29th in Mumbai and one of the most celebrated seasons in the history of Cricket has been scheduled to take place for the course of two months and the Indian cricket board has been preparing to host this year's season while the country has been caught up with the epidemic.

With just having two weeks for the official start of the season, the BCCI has been stormed with several requests appealing the board to postpone the season with the view of avoiding mass gatherings as the country has been witnessing the soaring high number of cases in India. Earlier, the BCCI has stated that it has no plans to postpone the series after which the Ministry of External Affairs had suggested the BCCI to conduct the cricket matches without the spectators in the stadium and the BCCI has tabled a meeting on Friday in Mumbai after which it has decided to suspend the games till April 15th.
The BCCI has further stated that it has passed the decision of suspending the games to the teams and the franchises. The Board has officially tweeted in which it has mentioned that "#VIVOIPL suspended till 15th April 2020 as a precautionary measure against the ongoing Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19) situation. " According to ANI, the board added that "We are concerned & sensitive about all our stakeholders, and public health in general, and are taking all necessary steps to ensure that, all people related to IPL including fans have a safe cricketing experience."
The decision of postponing the IPL has come hours after the Delhi government has suspended all the games from its venues with the view of containing the spread of the contagion. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that the government has decided to ban any sports activity where people will gather huge numbers like IPL and adding to that, the government has banned all the big events, sports gatherings, and conferences till further notice with the view of having social distancing to combat the outbreak.
