The police department in Thanjavur has arrested a 29-year-old man for reportedly organizing the 'Corona feast' in the district while the lockdown and prohibitory orders under section 144 have been in place across the state in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak.
The curfew bars the unlawful assembly and refrains the movement of the people. However, the 29-year-old man and his friends had grouped, cooked, and consumed food together of what they termed as 'Corona Virundhu' (Corona Feast). The incident happened on Wednesday in the vicinity of Kabisthalam in Thanjavur where they sat close to each other by breaking the chain of social distancing.
Social distancing has been the preventive measures that the governments are appealing to the people to maintain with the view of breaking the chain of the virus spread. According to the reports, the matter has come to the revelation after the feast was uploaded on Facebook where the group of friends sat in a long row for short enjoyment.

With accord to the video, the Village Administrative Officer had lodged the complaint with the local police department following which the 29-year-old Sivaguru has been arrested in this connection. He was earlier working in Tiruppur and came to the district two months back. This incident has been one of the examples of how people observe social distancing in some parts of the state.
Earlier, people from Muduvarpatti village near Alanganallur in Madurai district had gathered for the final procession of a jallikattu bull. The visuals from the procession shown that the people had assembled with garlands to pay tribute to the deceased bull which died on April 12. The lockdown prohibits the funeral if it was attended by more than twenty people. The district administration said that six people have been booked for violating the curfew. However, the police department contradicted from the administration as it has claimed no cases have been filed.
