Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's day out at a nightclub in Kathmandu, Nepal had sparked a fresh political tussle between the two national parties with the leaders from the respective side attacking each other through Gandhi's video that has been going viral across social media.
While Congress has been claiming that Rahul Gandhi has gone to Kathmandu to attend the marriage function of a journalist friend, the national ruling BJP has found a talking point through his presence at a nightclub. The war of words between both the parties had also brought in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's uninvited visit to Pakistan during his first tenure.
BJP's social media department chief Amit Malviya had tweeted Gandhi's video and he wrote, "Rahul Gandhi was at a nightclub when Mumbai was under seize. He is at a nightclub at a time when his party is exploding. He is consistent. Interestingly, soon after the Congress refused to outsource their presidency, hit jobs have begun on their Prime Ministerial candidate."
Reacting to Malviya's tweet, Congress Chief Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that Gandhi was in Nepal for a private wedding and has not gone there uninvited. Surjewala said, "Rahul Gandhi has not gone as an uninvited guest like Prime Minister Narendra Modi has gone to Pakistan to celebrate the birthday and cut cakes for the then Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif."
"Rahul Gandhi has gone to a friendly country Nepal to participate in a private marriage function of a friend. By chance, the friend also happens to be a journalist", Surjewala added. By slamming the RSS, the Congress leader has stated that it is not a crime to attend weddings of family and friends as 'it is part of our culture unlike the RSS'. He further noted, "Last when I checked, having a family in this country and having friends, attending marriage and engagement ceremonies is a matter of our culture and civilization."
"It has still not become a crime in this country to be married, to be friends with someone or to attend their marriage celebration. Maybe after today, Prime Minister Modi or the BJP may decide that it is illegal to attend a marriage. They may say it is a crime to have friends or participate in family functions", Surjewala added. Rahul Gandhi had arrived in Kathmandu on Monday on a five-day tour and he has arrived in Nepal to attend the wedding of his friend Sumnima Udas, who is a former CNN correspondent.
