Finally, the race for Tamil Nadu DGP has come to an end. Dr C Sylendra Babu has been appointed as the new Director-General of Police of Tamil Nadu. Chief Minister MK Stalin has finalized the name and picked Sylendra Babu to lead the Tamil Nadu police, one of the largest law enforcement agencies in India.
Sylendra Babu will be taking charge of his new post on July 1, 2021, and his predecessor, incumbent DGP JK Tripathy will be retiring on June 30, 2021, after completing his two-year tenure on the post. The appointment of Sylendra Babu has become crucial as his a prominent figure in the state's law enforcement circle and he is also better known for motivating the younger generation and chasing milestones.
Being the senior-most IPS officer in the state, Sylendra Babu is an IPS officer from the 1987 batch and he was previously serving as the Director-General of Police of Railways in Tamil Nadu and he also had served as the Director of the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services. He also has authored several books that are mostly in the form of motivating others. When the race for DGP has begun, it was strongly speculated that Sylendra Babu will win.
A government order from the Home Department had announced the decision of the state government to appoint Sylendra Babu IPS as the new DGP of the state. The order said that the government has examined the recommendations of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) carefully and independently along with their service records.
The order further said that the government, after due consideration, appointed Dr C Sylendra Babu IPS - TN 1987, as the Director-General of Police, Tamil Nadu, and Head of Police Force with effect from 01.07.2021. On Monday, the UPSC has shortlisted the three final names for the post of the Tamil Nadu DGP. The final three names were - C Sylendra Babu IPS, Karan Singha IPS (both of them are 1987 batch officers), and Sanjay Arora IPS from the 1988 batch.
The UPSC has sent the final names to the Tamil Nadu government to pick one from these three IPS officers as the DGP of the state. After strong consideration, the government has picked and appointed Sylendra Babu as the next DGP of Tamil Nadu. He will be assuming the highest law enforcement office in the state. The reports say that there would be a ceremonial transition between the outgoing and incoming Directors-General of Police on Wednesday.
On June 28, the UPSC has convened the Empanelment Committee Meeting and recommended a panel of the names of IPS officers as suitable for appointment to the post of DGP. Scores of IPS officers were on the race to win the post and the race was strong between the top three. Finally, Sylendra Babu has won the race and is all set to become the new DGP of the state. Several people are welcoming the news on social media as he is one of the celebrating police officers in the state. Congratulations Sylendra Babu IPS for becoming the new DGP of Tamil Nadu.
