A day after the death of a Class 12 girl student in Tamil Nadu's Tiruvallur where she committed suicide, her body was on Tuesday - July 26 handed over to the parents after conducting an autopsy. The startling demise has become the second such incident within two weeks after the death of a 17-year-old girl student in Kallakurichi, whose mysterious demise has sparked public outcry and violence that was in the fashion of damaging the school properties with the allegations that there is a foul play in the student's death.
During the morning hours on Monday - July 25, a Class 12 girl in Tiruvallur was found dead inside the hostel. She was a native of Thekkalur near Tiruttani in Tiruvallur and was studying in a government-aided school that was functioning at Kilachery, 50 km from Chennai. It has been reported that the girl was seen with her friends on Monday morning and later, she went to her hostel room which was deserted as every inmate has gone to school.
Moments later, some of her friends came to the room and were shocked to see the student hanging. She was found dead and this incident was reported to the local police. The school management informed the girl's family after which they reached the spot. After recovering the girl's body, the Tiruvallur district police have filed an FIR based on the complaint from the girl's family that there is suspicion in her death.
While the police sent the body to the Tiruvallur Government Hospital to conduct an autopsy, the relatives of the girl held a roadblock in her native town demanding justice for her death. On Monday, one of her family members told, "We have a suspicion in her death. We will not be taking her body without knowing what exactly happened to her. She is not someone who commits suicide."
However, the police officials held talks with the family appealing to them to take the body once the autopsy is done. A day after her death, the autopsy was held at the Tiruvallur Government Hospital on Tuesday and it was video graphed. Being reminiscent of the riots that occurred after the death of a student in Kallakurichi, the police in Tiruvallur have taken measures to curb any such unrest.
Tiruvallur Superintendent of Police, Pakerla Cephas Kalyan has deployed an adequate force of police outside the hospital and the school to counter any untoward incident. The girl's autopsy was done under full police protection and the state government has said that the probe into the girl's death will be done by the CB-CID. Deputy Inspector-General of Police, M Sathya Priya said, "Preliminary investigations are done. No suicide note has been recovered so far."
After performing an autopsy, the girl's body was handed over to her parents on Tuesday. Her body is being taken to her native village of Thekkalur under tight police security and it is pertinent to note that hundreds of police officials have been deployed in Thekkalur. After the incident, the local administration has closed the school and hostel premises as the back-to-back shocking events have kept the tensions brewing with the state government enduring a challenge to addressing such tragic losses.
The Class 12 Kallakurichi girl was found dead on July 13 at her school and while the school claimed that the girl committed suicide on July 12, her family has alleged foul play in the student's death and on July 15, the school witnessed a rampage and riots as a large group of protesters torched the school buses and damaged school properties and held the school management accountable for the girl's death.
Last Saturday- July 23, ten days after the girl's demise, the body of the girl was buried in her hometown in the midst of tensions and in the presence of the girl's family, relatives, hundreds of police officers, and a handful of leaders. She was buried along with her book on Saturday - July 23 in Periyanesalur village of the Cuddalore district.
