Chinese investments - The prospect to elevate the economy of Chennai?

The city of Chennai has been clouded with the prospects of acquiring Chinese investments that will most likely rope the city towards getting economic elevation. It has been reported that due to the on going trade war and turmoil between the United States and China, two automobile companies, one each from Korea and Taiwan had flagged its interest to explore the economic corridors in Chennai for shipping the plants from China to Chennai.

The reports further stated that the promotion wing of industries in the state of Tamil Nadu, SIPCOT ( State Industries Promotion Cooperation of Tamil Nadu) has been tabling the discussions with these two east Asian companies towards annexing the prospects to ground the auto parts makers in the city of Chennai.

The reports from SIPCOT had indicated that the promotion wing had appointed a consultant towards concrete review on the possibilities and to table the Detailed Project Report. It further cited that SIPCOT owns nearly 1000 acres of land in various industrial corridors in Chennai where the package has been hosting the potential grounds for public private models.

An official from SIPCOT had said that both companies of Korea and Taiwan have held discussions with the state authorities for possible land allocation to install their units in Chennai from China where the state authorities had furnished the potential corridors for automobile industries that were housed by Chennai and further added that the state government will reserve the industrial parks in SIPCOT to explore the plant.

While speaking about the possible potential investments from China, the chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry's Tamil Nadu wing had said that the state of Tamil Nadu houses huge prospect towards attracting the international investments from the big companies that are hunting for an alternative to China.

The state of Tamil Nadu has also be known as the "Detroit of Asia" since the city hosts the manufacturing plants of national and international automobile industries like BMW, Nissan, Ford, Hyundai, Renault, Ashok Leyland, Royal Enfield, TVS Motors and Yamaha where the state has been accounted for manufacturing 35% of automobiles in India.
