After being accounted for unseen and abnormal circumstances in the Automobile industry, one of India's biggest automobile hub which has also been described as "Detroit of Asia" Chennai has been signaling tumbling pictures across its automobile platform unlike in past years.
The Automobile plants in the city had seen flagging staff attrition and job cuts after the manufacturing plants had accounted for less production which has feared that the employment opportunities of millions will be called off at any moment that has oiled the prevailing uncertainty in the city's automobile platform, which has been known for manufacturing about 35% of nation's automobiles.
As the move of justifying the pictures of diminishing economy, one of the biggest manufacturers of trucks "Ashok Leyland" had halted its operations and had announced five non working days for its workers at its Chennai plant in what it can be reported that the truck manufacturer inevitably suspended its operations in the wake of drastic decrease in its sales which had resulted due to tumbling auto industry. It has been reported that the plant will be remained shut down from September 6th to the next five days excluding Sunday.
The company management had addressed about the shuttering down of its operations to its employees through letter which reads the company's announcement of five non working days which won't account for any sort of operations in the plant. The letter further cites to the employees that as already informed, due to continuing sluggishness in the commercial vehicle market, the company is ought to take corrective actions to safeguard its interest. The reports from the plant had said that ahead of having been announced that the next five days will have no operations, its expected that about 5000 workers, including 3000 contract workers will lose their jobs. The workers union of Ashok Leyland had cited that the wages for workers in these non working days will be decided later.
The reports further stated that the move of calling off the operations for the next five days had been taken after the company has been accounted for unseen, never before drop of 70% in the sale of its Medium and Heavy commercial trucks in the domestic market in the month of August.
Ashok Leyland doesn't hold to be an exceptional to halt the operations where most of the manufacturing plants of major automobile companies in Chennai had called off its operations where the auto industry has been accounted for the lose of at least 5000 contract workers in the last three months.
Adding to the line of Ashok Leyland, major care manufacturer Maruti Suzuki had announced two days shut down of its plants in the state of Haryana while Tata Motors, TVS and Hero companies had barricaded its operations as per their declining sales.
