A police officer in Chennai has been placed under suspension after his altercation and attack against a conductor attached to the MTC (Metropolitan Transport Corporation) went viral on social media. The incident happened on Sunday and the police officer had started attacking the conductor after the latter spit on the road.
According to reports, 47-year-old Balachandran, a conductor with MTC working at the bus depot in Ayanavaram, was out to have tea at 7.30 am on Sunday in Saidapet. He has spat on the road without watching police constable John Louis, who was passing by. After the constable witnessed Balachandran spitting on the road, the former had picked up an argument with the latter and their argument had then turned into an altercation.
Louis has said that he was opposed to Balachandran spitting on the road and their altercation had attracted crowds in which some of them had taken video of the incident. Balachandran told the constable that it was his mistake and he had apologized to John Louis for spitting on the road. However, John Louis turned dumb over his apology and started attacking the conductor.
Louis had brutally beaten Balachandran and the latter had sustained severe injuries on his face. The people who were at the spot had rushed the conductor to a nearby government hospital where he is getting treated. A few locals had picked up an argument with the police officer, John Louis, for beating Balachandran despite he had rendered an apology. The visuals of the incident were viral on social media and several people had demanded action and Louis, following which he has now been suspended.
