Chennai police arrest a Kollywood producer based on a complaint from actor Vimal!

The Virugambakkam police department in Chennai has arrested Kollywood producer Singaravelan on Tuesday based on a complaint that was lodged by actor Vimal. The actor has accused the producer of cheating and the officials are carrying out legal proceedings to take Singaravelan under custody.

The apprehended producer will be produced before a Saidapet court to remand him for further investigations. Vimal and Singaravelan had a dispute for the past few years in connection with the movie 'Mannar Vagaiyara' which was released in 2018.

Vimal had played the lead role in the movie and amid their growing dispute, the actor has in 2021 filed a complaint against Singaravelan by alleging that the producer had made fake documents under his name and indulged in cheating. Based on Vimal's complaint, the police had filed a case against Singaravelan and his friends last year. However, Singaravelan had obtained bail from the court with a directive that he should appear before the investigating officer every month.

Later, he had failed to adhere to the court order and now, Vimal has lodged a second complaint against Singaravelan in a fresh tussle that the producer had cheated another producer using the actor's name. In his complaint, Vimal said that Singaravelan had cheated and threatened the producer of the 'Vilangu' web series, in which he acted in the lead role, for money.

Following the complaint, the Virugambakkam police had booked a case against Singaravelan and his friends Gobi and Thirunavukkarasu. A case has been filed under five sections following which the police had now arrested Singaravelan and others and launched a probe into the matter.
