The Tamil Nadu Police have arrested a 36-year-old man for cheating a woman with a fake promise of providing a government job, by claiming that he was a close aide of Udhayanidhi Stalin, the DMK MLA of the Chepauk-Triplicane constituency. The man was accused of cheating and swindling money from the woman to the tune of Rs 4.5 lakh. Based on the complaint from the woman, the police had arrested him on Sunday.
33-year-old Thenmozhi, a native of Tirupattur, was working in a private firm in Chennai and in 2018, she had got a friendship with Rajesh Karunamurthy of Chennai and he went on to promise Thenmozhi that he could get her a government job. With his assurance, Thenmozhi had paid Rs 4.50 lakh to Rajesh in instalments. She had later realized that she was being conned by Rajesh.
As Rajesh has failed to keep his promise, she asked him to pay her money back. However, he had begun ignoring her phone calls and messages. Following that, the woman had filed a police complaint against him at the Kandili police in Tirupattur. However, Rajesh went on to threaten her. He claimed that he was the Personal Assistant (PA) to Udhayanidhi Stalin and intimidated her that her life would be ruined if she goes up with her complaint against him.
Thenmozhi had recorded the telephonic conversation and it was later hit social media. After being threatened by Rajesh, she had filed another complaint with the police on the threat issued by Rajesh. Based on her complaint, the police had launched a probe and on Sunday, the officials had arrested Rajesh under the grounds of cheating the woman and misusing the MLA's name.
During the investigation, it was found that Rajesh has no affiliation with any political parties and it was also found that he had given such fake promises to several people across the state. By citing that he has been remanded into custody, a police officer has said that Rajesh was using the names of political leaders depending on the district where he gave such promises of providing government jobs. Rajesh has been booked on charges of cheating, impersonation, and criminal intimidation.
