CAA uproar: A Norwegian woman was ordered to depart the country!

A Norwegian woman has been directed to depart the country after she involved herself in the protest against the CAA in Kochi, Kerala and she has become the second foreigner to get departed from the country in less than a week time for taking part in the protests against the Citizenship Act as earlier this week, the immigration authorities had ordered a German student who was studying in IIT Madras to leave India after he was spotted in the protests in Chennai.

The woman was identified as 71-year-old Janne-Mette Johansson and it's her fifth visit to India and she came to India under a tourist visa. The reports say that she was summoned by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) in Kochi on Thursday where she was interrogated by the officials following which she was ordered to leave the country under the grounds of violating the visa norms and regulations and it remains unclear whether she was asked to vacate the country immediately. The reports have stated that she holds a visa till next year March.

She was subpoenaed by the Regional Office after she allegedly took part in the protests against CAA held in Kochi on December 23 and she uploaded the pictures of the protests on her Facebook page and in her post, she updated that she participated in the protest march from Gandhi Circle Ernakulam to Vasco da Gama Square in Kochi and she claimed that the march was well organized. She was called on by the officials and she was questioned in the Regional Office that operates at the premises of Cochin International Airport.

As per the reports, Janne told that she kept waiting in the airport for many hours and cited that her interaction with the authorities as a belittling interrogation. After the investigations, the authorities directed her to stay in Kochi until further orders and decisions are issued. On Friday morning, she took Facebook and thanked everyone on her journey and asserted that she won't be posting on Facebook about her travel in India. By citing that she still stays in Cochin, she added that she would be leaving for New Delhi when the time comes right for her.

On Monday, a german student who was pursuing his second semester in IIT Madras was ordered to leave the country by the immigration department after alleging that he violated his visa rules by involving in the protests against the controversial act. 24-year-old Jakob Lindenthal, a native of Dresden, Germany, was an exchange student in IIT Madras. He had reportedly seen in the protests and rallies across the city that were organized to voice against the act. Last week, he took part in the protest in Valluvar Kottam where he was seen holding a placard which read '1933-1945, We have been there' and through his message, he recalled the Hilter's Nazi regime in Germany that persecuted the Jews.

Jakob Lindenthal, an exchange student from the Dresden University of Technology has been pursuing a Masters in Physics in IIT Madras and he was told to leave the country when he has one more semester to complete on the campus.
