This Diwali has recently witnessed a riveting clash between two much-anticipated films, 'Jigarthanda DoubleX' and 'Japan,' both vying for the audience's attention across major screens. Let's delve into the latest updates on the box office performance of these compelling releases.
'Japan,' featuring Karthi and directed by Raju Murugan of 'Joker' fame, has created a stir with its mixed reviews. Despite the critical reception, it resulted in an impressive earning of almost Rs 6 crore on day 4. The cumulative collection of 'Japan' has now reached a commendable Rs 12 crore.
On the other side of the release, 'Jigarthanda DoubleX' has grossed Rs 6 crore on day 4 alone. The film's global earnings have surpassed the Rs 20 crore mark, solidifying its march towards blockbuster status. Helmed by Karthik Subbaraj and featuring Raghava Lawrence and SJ Suryah in lead roles, the period gangster drama has captivated audiences since its release on November 10th, 2023.
'Japan,' distributed by Annapurna Studios in the Telugu states, showcases Anu Emmanuel as the leading lady. Directed by the acclaimed Raju Murugan, a journalist-turned-director and national award recipient for 'Joker,' the film is produced by Dream Warrior Pictures, known for delivering memorable films like 'Joker,' 'Kaithi,' and 'Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru. GV Prakash had done the musical score.
Meanwhile 'Jigarthanda DoubleX,' the film pays homage to its predecessor, the 2014 hit 'Jigarthanda.' The storyline revolves around Pandiyan, an ambitious gangster in Madurai, portrayed by Raghava Lawrence, who aspires to become the first dark-skinned actor in Tamil cinema.
To achieve this unconventional dream, Pandiyan enlists the help of Ray Dasan, played by SJ Suryah, a former assistant director eager to make his directorial debut. However, complications arise as Pandiyan finds himself hunted by rivals, leading to a cascade of challenges in the film's production.
The creative team, including composer Santhosh Narayanan, cinematographer Tirru, and editor Shafique Mohamed Ali.
