Bombay Jayashri, one of the most celebrated Carnatic vocalists and a Padma Shri recipient, has shared an update on her health after undergoing surgery for an aneurysm in the UK last month. The singer took to Twitter on Monday and revealed that she is recovering well with the blessings, prayers and wishes of her well-wishers.
She wrote, “With all your blessings, prayers, and wishes, I am recovering well. Please keep them coming,” she wrote in her post. The singer had suffered an aneurysm, a swelling in the arterial wall or cardiac chamber due to damage caused to the blood vessel or the wall of the blood vessel becoming weak, while she was on tour in the UK for her concerts.
She was found unconscious in her hotel and was rushed to a hospital where she underwent a keyhole surgery. She received timely medical intervention thanks to the capable staff at the NHS and her accompanying artistes. She was admitted to the hospital on March 24 2023 and was scheduled to perform at the Tung Auditorium, Yoko Ono Lennon Centre, University of Liverpool, on the same day.
Bombay Jayashri is known for her melodic and meditative style of singing and has also delighted audiences with popular numbers rendered for Indian films. She has also been training underprivileged children in music and contributing through her art to social causes.
She was recently announced as the recipient of The Music Academy’s most prestigious honour – Sangeetha Kalanidhi – for the year 2023. She is the first woman vocalist to receive this honour after M.S.Subbulakshmi in 1968. Her fans and admirers have expressed their happiness and relief over her recovery and wished her a speedy return to the stage.
