In a shocking development, a BJP MP from Himachal Pradesh was found dead at his residence in Delhi on Wednesday. The Delhi police have been probing the incident to ascertain whether it was a case of suicide.
Ram Swaroop Sharma had been serving as a BJP MP in Lok Sabha representing the Mandi parliamentary constituency in Himachal Pradesh. He was a two-time parliamentarian, elected in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Sharma was 62-year-old and he reportedly was suffering from ailments for the past few months.
He had been residing in a residence in Delhi and he was found dead in the morning hours of Wednesday. According to reports, he was found hanging in his room following which the law enforcement agency was alerted. The police had come to the residence and recovered his body and sent for the autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.
As the room was locked from inside, the police suspect that Sharma had died by suicide. The police had launched a probe into his death and a police official said that the BJP MP was found hanging inside his room, which was locked from inside and no suicide note has been found.
It has been reported that Sharma's personal assistant alerted the police control room after the MP didn't respond to his call. With an alert, the police team was rushed to his residence immediately and they opened his room, which was locked from inside, and were shocked to see Sharma hanging through the ceiling fan. They recovered the body and sent for the autopsy.
The sudden demise of the parliamentarian had saddened the BJP and the Central ruling party has canceled its Parliamentary party meeting, scheduled to take place on Wednesday, after learning the demise of Ram Swaroop Sharma. It must be noted that earlier in February, 58-year-old Mohan Delkar, an MP from the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli was found dead in a room at a hotel. The police had recovered the suicide note in which Delkar had blamed a number of people, including a senior politician, behind his decision of ending his life.
