A BJP leader in the state of West Bengal was shot dead on Sunday by the unknown assailants and following the incident, the Central ruling party has been blaming the state ruling Trinamool Congress party for the crime and it has been demanding a CBI probe into the incident, with the state governor summoning the top officials in the wake of worsening law and order in the state.
According to reports, Manish Sukla, a BJP leader and local councilor in West Bengal was shot dead near Titagarh in the North 24 Parganas district on Sunday by two bike-borne assailants. He was rushed to a private hospital for treatments. However, the police said he was declared brought dead at the hospital, following which the two rival parties had accused each other for the incident.
The BJP leadership in the state has apparently blamed the ruling Trinamool Congress for the incident. BJP National Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya said that it is shameful that the TMC has now started politics of destructing the political opponents. By citing that the Central ruling party doesn't have any faith in local police as the incident had happened in front of the police station, Vijayvargiya had demanded a CBI inquiry into the death of the party's leader.
However, the ruling Trinamool Congress had denied the allegations leveled by the BJP that it has involved in the crime. Senior TMC leader Nirmal Ghosh said that the incident was a result of infighting within the BJP and claimed that the allegations from the Central ruling party are baseless.
According to the local police, Shukla was gunned down around 9.30 pm on Sunday and the law enforcement agency had started an investigation and asserted that it would be probing the case in all possible angles. The reports say that the deceased leader had joined BJP last year from TMC. Shukla was a close aide of BJP MP Arjun Singh and he was shot after he was returning from a meeting in Habra with other party leaders.
He was chatting with a few people at a tea stall during which the assailants opened fire on him and he was taken to Apollo Hospital where he was declared dead on arrivals. Speaking about the incident Arjun Singh said that Shukla was his close friend and he was killed just near Titagarh police station. The reports stated that following the incident, the BJP had called for a 12-hour bandh in the Barrackpore area on Monday to protest against the incident.
Following the incident, West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar had expressed his concern over the law and order situation in the state. He had summoned the Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, and the Director-General of Police over the killing of the BJP leader.
By taking to Twitter, the Governor said, "ACS Home @MamataOfficial and DGP @WBPolice have been summoned at 10 am tomorrow in the wake of worsening law and order situation leading to dastardly killing of Manish Shukla, Councillor, Titagarh Municipality in political party office".
