Hours after tendering her resignation from the Congress party, actor turned politician Khushbu has, on Monday, officially joined the Central ruling BJP at an event that held in Delhi as she has unfolded a high-level drama and prepares to start a new political stint in the BJP, which is the third party for her in her decade-long political career.
Khushbu Sundar has joined the BJP in the presence of party's national secretary CT Ravi, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra, and Tamil Nadu BJP President L Murugan. The event was held at the BJP's headquarters in Delhi and the actor turned politician was officially given a membership card as the senior BJP leaders welcomed her to the party. The development has come days after she asserted that she won't be joining BJP and months ahead of the Tamil Nadu legislative elections.
After becoming the BJP leader, Khushbu addressed the media during which she said, "It gives me immense pleasure to take a step forward and become a part of BJP today which over a period of time, I have come to an understanding that if the nation has to move forward, we need somebody like our Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji to take the country in the right direction and towards glory".

She stated, "I'm completely happy to join the BJP and I promise to my best at the responsibilities that will be given to me and I'll do my best to make sure that my state, Tamil Nadu sees victory in the upcoming elections. I'm here as the millions of people of this country who have great hopes on the BJP under the esteemed leadership of Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji that I will work like any other cadre or any other worker to the best of my abilities". Following her press meet, she had met with BJP National President JP Nadda.
Giving a shock to the Congress leadership, Khushbu had offered her resignation from the Congress party and she addressed her resignation to party president Sonia Gandhi on Monday moments after she was expelled from the post of the national spokesperson, which she held for the past six years. In her resignation, she stated that leaders like her have been pushed and suppressed by the senior-level leaders in Congress who are dictating terms to them.
While speaking about her strong criticism of the Modi government, Khushbu said that she had criticized BJP as it was her job while she was in the opposition party. She said that the duty of the opposition is to criticize the ruling party and claimed that she had supported BJP in many ways. By citing that there is no corruption in the BJP, the actor turned politician said she would give importance to who has helped the country.
Speaking at the event, BJP leader Sambit Patra had said that Khushbu is a champion of women and child rights and one of the reputed actresses in the country. Tamil Nadu BJP President L Murugan said that many people including politicians from various parties, celebrities, businessmen, and people from backward castes are joining the party which shows that they want a government led by Modi in Tamil Nadu. By welcoming the actor to the party, Murugan asserted that BJP is ensuring true governance to the Indian people.
Earlier, when Khushbu tweeted in favor of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) which was staunchly opposed by the Congress party, speculations had surrounded her that she would be joining the BJP party. However, she had strongly negated the speculations and said that she was happy with the Congress party and won't be moving into the BJP.
However, she has now twisted the tale and unfolded a high-level drama in a day as soon after she had resigned from the Congress party, she had, without a second thought of re-considering to stay in Congress, joined the BJP and prepares with a new voice to support Modi's camp in the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly polls. During one of her interviews in 2018 as the Congress leader, she said that the country can be saved only if BJP losses the elections and in two years, she has now said that the country needs someone like Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take it forward in the right direction.
