As the state of Tamil Nadu has been fast-approaching the assembly polls, which is the first legislative election since the demise of political giants Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa, the political parties have been gearing up with the strategies to take on the rivals in the campaign trail and to fix the alliance, seating sharing, and selection of candidates.
With the ruling ADMK party and opposition DMK are in the ring for the real fight to take over the reign, the other parties are mulling to contest independently to unfold the multi-race in the state. One of the parties is Makkal Needhi Maiam, founded by actor turned politician Kamal Haasan. The reputed actor is a newbie for electoral politics and his party is getting ready to have the breakthrough in the assembly polls with the hope of the voter percentage it secured in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
Kamal's party has got a 3% vote share in the Lok Sabha polls and he strongly eyes to carry forward the same voter share without any shatter to the legislative polls. Amid being surfaced with questions of alliance or making ties with his friend Rajinikanth in politics, Kamal Haasan has been asserting that he will be contesting independently and his alliance will only be with people. One of the vocal critics of the ADMK government and corruption, Kamal Haasan has on Thursday addressed the reporters in Chennai about his election strategies and alliance.
His party had organized the press meet at a hotel in T Nagar, Chennai, and addressing the reporters with the backdrop of the banner that read 'Reimagining Tamizh Nadu', the actor turned politician had revealed that he has been in talks with Rajinikanth regarding his political stand and Kamal said that he already knew about Rajini's health condition, that was recently surfaced across social media. Kamal stated that his party has been working with the principle of 'We are the solution' and by citing that it's not the right time to speak about the alliance, he further stated that a third front has been formed and appealed to everyone to join the third front.
Kamal said, "When good people join the third front, it won't be the third front, rather it would be the first front. Makkal Needhi Maiam will form an alliance with good people and they should come to our alliance". "Rajini's health is important and he has to decide on his political entry", Kamal Haasan added. He further stated that 'Honesty' is the principle of his party for the assembly polls.
The leader of the two-year-old party had asserted that Makkal Needhi Maiam would create a direct impact in 100 to 160 constituencies. Responding to the question on which constituency will he contest, Kamal Haasan said that he will contest in the assembly polls. The party had announced his name as the CM candidate and said that he will reveal his constituency when he files nomination for the election.
Taking a jibe against the Tamil Nadu BJP in its 'Vetrivel Yatra', Kamal Haasan said that the jobs of young people are important than the Vetrivel Yatra and the actor turned politician had apparently said that he calls Sagayam IAS to join the party. Recently, Sagayam had filed VRS from his service, three years before his actual retirement. Kamal Haasan had further stated that he will commence his statewide campaign from November 26 and will cover the state.
Earlier last month, Kamal Haasan had addressed the executive committee of the party during which he said that he won't be waiting for Rajini. He said that his party is neither waiting for Rajini nor for anyone and pressed that his party won't wait and doesn't need anyone, including Rajini. Kamal Haasan asked the leaders to concentrate on taking and upkeeping the party works and strategies. However, as he had now acknowledged that he has been in talks with Rajini over his political stand, it had stirred the debate in the state whether the cinematic giants would form an alliance with the hope of becoming political giants.
