In bringing a positive development, MGM Healthcare Hospital in Chennai, which has been treating playback singer SPB, has, on Friday said that the legendary singer is doing stable currently and continues to be on the ventilator support and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO).
In the latest bulletin that was released on Friday, the hospital said, "Thiru SP Balasubrahmanyam, who had been admitted to MGM Healthcare due to COVID-19 continues to be on a ventilator and ECMO support in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and his condition is currently stable".
The hospital further stated, "Our multi-disciplinary team of medical experts is keeping a very close watch on the vital parameters and has been consistently updating SP Balasubrahmanyam's family regarding his critical status and progress".
Following the development which comes amid the wishes and prayers from the singer's fans and people for his speedy recovery, SPB's son SP Charan said, "The hospital has mentioned the word stable on Friday. On Thursday, he was listed as critical. But the press release on Friday says he is stable and not critical. But that doesn't mean he has recovered completely and the development means there are no complications and his vitals are doing fine".
On August 5, SPB said that he had tested positive for the COVID-19 viral infection. In his video message, he said he had a mild infection and he had been at the good hands and will be discharged in two days. However, on August 14, his health condition had attained a setback and he went to the critical state and moved to the ICU with life support.
The sudden development had saddened the fans and fraternities across and beyond the border and they have been offering their prayers and wishes to the singer for his speedy recovery. Earlier this week, the health condition declined and along with a ventilator, he also brought under the support of ECMO, which is the technique of providing prolonged cardiac and respiratory support to persons whose heart and lungs are unable to provide an adequate amount of gas exchange or perfusion to sustain life.
On Thursday, celebrities in the Tamil cinema industry and people across the state had held a mass prayer for sending their prayers and wishes for the legendary singer for his speedy recovery. They conducted mass prayer at their respective homes at 6 pm on Thursday by holding SPB's portrait, candles, and playing his everlasting songs.
As his condition become stable from being critical, SP Charan on Friday said he is happy after his father has been listed as stable, as the recent development has given a positive sign for his fans that he will be recovering and coming back.
