In a shocking development, well-known Tamil actor Thavasi has passed away on Monday at a private hospital in Madurai. He was battling cancer and his plight was recently came to light after he pleaded with Tamil film fraternities and the general public to support him in his treatment as he was battling for life. 

He had been battling cancer for a long time and his recent video had shocked the fans to see how he had become from how he was seen on the big screens. Seeing his plight, DMK MLA from Thiruparankundram, Madurai Saravanan had come forward and said he would treat him at his hospital and will take care of his medical expenses. 

Saravanan is a doctor cum politician and he is the managing director of Saravana Multispecialty Hospital in Madurai, where actor Thavasi was getting treated for cancer. Thousands of fans and fraternities had expressed their wishes for the actor to get a speedy recovery. However, amid the treatment, Thavasi's health had got deteriorated and on Monday, he had breathed his last at 8 pm on Monday. 

Dr. Saravanan had confirmed his demise. Taking to social media, Saravanan said, "Actor Thavasi got admitted to our hospital on November 11 after getting diagnosed with esophageal cancer. He got admitted as an in-patient and we have fixed Oesophageal Stent in his esophagus. He was getting treated in isolation and he was shifted to the critical care unit due to breathing difficulty".

"However, despite the efforts, he had passed away at 8 pm on Monday. My deepest condolences to his relatives, friends, and fans", the doctor tweeted. Following the conformity that Thavasi has passed away, many fans are taking to social media and expressing their condolences to the deceased actor. His fans were saddened to see his plight and his battle for survival. 

Thavasi, in his career spanning for over two decades, had made his debut in 'Kizhakku Cheemayile' which was directed by ace director Bharathiraja and hit the big screens in 1993. He had appeared in many rural-centric movies in supportive characters and he rose to fame through Sivakarthikeyan starred 'Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam'. 

In that movie, he acted as Soori's father and as an astrologer and his satiric delivery of dialogues in the movie had put him in popularity. The recent video that surfaced on social media showed the ailing state of the actor and how skinny he has become from how he was on the big screen. 

Following his appeal to support his treatment, many fraternities had come forward and made monetary contributions to the actor. Actors Vijay Sethupathi, Sivakarthikeyan, Simbu, and Soori had donated money for his treatment. However, Thavasi's battle for survival had come to an end on Monday after he breathed his last, and social media has been filled with the posts of paying tribute to the deceased actor.
