While the tragic incident of the death of a Class 12 student in Tamil Nadu's Kallakurichi has been brewing with public outcry, the state has recorded another shocking incident akin to that of Kallakurichi where a class 12 girl student committed suicide in the Tiruvallur district. The latest heartbreaking event has sparked a fresh round of furore and debate and the state government mechanism has rushed to the spot.
According to reports, a 17-year-old girl, who is a native of Thekkalur near Tiruttani in Tiruvallur, was studying Class 12 in a government-aided school that was functioning at Kilcheri. She was pursuing her studies by staying at a government hostel. It has been reported that she was getting ready for school on Monday- July 25 like every day and within some time, she has committed suicide in her hostel room.
Our sources say that she committed suicide at the time when her friends had gone to have breakfast. She was all alone in her room and her friends were shocked to see her dead. The incident was later taken to the attention of the concerned departments and after being informed, the local police officials rushed to the spot. They recovered the body and sent it to the Tiruvallur government hospital to perform an autopsy.
On the other hand, the family and relatives of the deceased student have gathered before the school and staged protests against the school management for not informing about the incident to them. Being reminiscent of the violence that unfolded in Kallakurichi last week over the death of a class 12 student that has drawn nationwide attention, hundreds of thousands of police officers have deployed in Tiruvallur to curb any untoward incident over the student's suicide.
The school and hostel premises were closed after the incident and the local administration has taken the school under its full control. Tiruvallur Superintendent of Police Pakerla Cephas Kalyan, Tiruvallur Collector Senthil Kumar, and the members of the state child welfare committee have come to the school to investigate the tragic incident.
The relatives of the deceased student have held a roadblock at the girl's native place and they alleged foul play in her death. After knowing the incident, Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi rushed to the school to review the situation. Recently, the Kallakurichi district has become a testament to the violence that unfolded in the failure of police and intelligence services.
The Class 12 Kallakurichi girl was found dead on July 13 at her school and while the school claimed that the girl committed suicide on July 12, her family has alleged foul play in the student's death and on July 15, the school witnessed a rampage and riots as a large group of protesters torched the school buses and damaged school properties and held the school management accountable for the girl's death.
Last Saturday- July 23, ten days after the girl's demise, the body of the girl was buried in her hometown in the midst of tensions and in the presence of the girl's family, relatives, hundreds of police officers, and a handful of leaders. She was buried along with her book on Saturday - July 23 in Periyanesalur village of the Cuddalore district.
