The second half of September comes with the perfect recipe of celebrations for the cinema lovers as in two weeks, they would jump into the world of iconic creations and electrifying entertainments. The rest of September would see the Indian theatres go busy with a handful of notable features. Similar to August, they will have a plethora of titles to choose from and decide what to watch on the large screen.

A diverse list of movies will be released this September with prominent stars such as Silambarasan, Dhanush, Karthi, and Aishwarya Rai Bacchan. There is a slew of top flicks that will be running on screens to watch from this weekend like Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu and Naane Varuven, and the month will be closed with Mani Ratnam's magnum opus 'Ponniyin Selvan'. Let's take a look at what the store of cinema will be offering us in the second half of September,

Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu - September 15

Helmed by renowned director Gautham Vasudev Menon, this movie has Simbu and Siddhi Idnani playing the lead roles. Radhikaa Sarathkumar, Siddique, Neeraj Madhav and Aangelina Abraham will be seen in supporting roles. The film has music scored by AR Rahman and the digital rights were acquired by Amazon Prime Video. Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu is bankrolled by Ishari Ganesh under his banner 'Vels Films International' and distributed by Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies. Vendhu Thanindhadhu Kaadu's Telugu version, 'The Life of Muthu' was supposed to release in theatres on September 15, but has been postponed to September 17. 

Sinam - September 16 

Sinam is the upcoming crime thriller movie directed by GNR Kumaravelan. While Arun Vijay plays the lead role as a police officer, Pallak Lalwani plays the female lead. The movie also stars Kaali Venkat and RNR Manohar in crucial roles. Produced by veteran actor and Arun Vijay's father Vijayakumar under the banner of Movie Slides, Sinam has Shabir as its music director. 

Avatar - September 23 

Being a movie to have a global cult following, the first part of the iconic Avatar will be released on September 23 in a new version ahead of the release of its second part. A 4K High Dynamic Range remastered version of James Cameron's 'Avatar' will be released in theatres worldwide. The epic sci-fi movie will be re-released three months before its eagerly awaited sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, which will be released on December 16. 

Naane Varuvean -  September 29 

In this Selvaraghavan's directorial, Dhanush and Elli AvrRam will play the lead roles. Dhanush will appear in two roles - one as the protagonist and the other one as the antagonist. While Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed the music, Om Prakash handled the cinematography and Prasanna GK took care of editing. Recently, it has been announced that the movie will get released on September 29 while it was earlier speculated that it will clash with Ponniyin Selvan. 

Ponniyin Selvan 1 - September 30 

Ponniyin Selvan, a saga of Tamil films from renowned director Mani Ratnam, will hit the theatres on the final day of September. The historical drama is based on the same-titled 1955 Tamil novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy, which tells the tale of Arulmozhivarman AKA Rajaraja Chola I, the great Chola emperor.  The film features a number of well-known actors, including Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, Prakash Raj, Jayaram, Jayam Ravi, and Aishwarya Lekshmi. Isai Puyal A R Rahman composed the music.
