When Arnab Goswami appears before the cameras for his primetime debates, most of the nation would lean forward to watch his show which would typically be his monologue where he would apparently flay the oppositions with his claim that they had compromised national security and the reason behind major corruptions. While many pro-BJP supporters hailed him as an icon of truth, the recent developments had revealed that his patriotic face had lasted only in his debates and TV shows that were filled with incessant advertisements. 

The recent developments which unfolded and have been unfolding apparently shocked the nation by revealing Arnab's face and works behind the cameras to stay in the limelight before. Right from trading the standards of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) to compromising the national security for TRP's, Arnab has been pushed to answer the nation which, at right time, wants to know from him. It all started from the allegations against Arnab that he went to the extent of stealing TRP's to keep his Republic TV in the spotlight across the nation. Under the charges of TRP scam, the Mumbai Police in November had even arrested Arnab, which brought out the drama around him and his channel. 

Though he was granted bail, the racket didn't stop there and it went on to shake national security with the revelations on how Arnab downplayed the national security for TRP gains. The WhatsApp chats between Arnab and former CEO of BARC, Partho Dasgupta had brought to light that Arnab had compromised national security to hit more TRP. The WhatsApp transcripts between them had also raised several questions about the malpractice in the television ratings. These chats were unearthed by the Mumbai police in connection to Arnab's TRP scam charge. 

In the chats, Arnab had discussed TRP gains with Dasgupta and he was seen linking the Pulwama terror attack and Balakot airstrikes to TRP gains and Dasgupta's help to his friend Arnab to dominate the news industry in India. According to reports, the chats not only revealed the conversations about TRP manipulation but also has revealed that they spoke about the Balakot strikes much before the nation had witnessed the strikes which were India's counterattack to Pakistan for the 2019 Pulwama terror attack. In the chat, Arnab said he had information about the Balakot strike, that the government was planning big against Pakistan, three days in advance. 

In one excerpt of the chat, Dasgupta tells Arnab to take care of his distribution, Arnab replies, "very very very well covered much ahead, any my south is covered fantastic". Dasgupta replies "Let me know where all". On 14th February 2019, hours after the Pulwama attack, Goswami purportedly texted Dasgupta that it (the attack that killed 40 Indian soldiers) worked well for his channel's TRPs. In another conservation on 23rd February 2019, Arnab referred to the government's plans to strike Pakistan in a way that people will be elated and they both had also discussed scrapping of Article 370 in Kashmir prior. 

Arnab's conversation about India's surgical strike, which was supposed to be utmost confidential and military secret, much before the attack had stirred nationwide outrage and controversies with Arnab pushed to witness the collapse of his patriotic image. Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram questioned that, "Did a journalist and his friend (Dasgupta) know about the retaliatory strike on Balakot camp three days before the actual strike? If yes, what is the guarantee that their 'source' did not share the information with others as well, including spies or informers working for Pakistan? He questioned Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, "How did a 'For Your Eyes Only' decision finds its way to the government- supporting journalist?"

Similar questions and a question of what would have happened to Indian soldiers if Pakistan had known what Arnab knew already were raised across the nation with a strong call of holding Arnab responsible for the scams and manipulations of TRP by trading the national security. Mumbai Police had released WhatsApp chats between Arnab and Dasgupta that went for over a thousand pages and following the revelation, the police had arrested Dasgupta and took him under his custody for further interrogations on how he used his position to play with the national security along with Arnab Goswami. The police had recently filed a charge sheet and now the investigation has shockingly revealed the latest face of Arnab Goswami that the nation was shocked to know. 

According to reports close to the developments, Arnab Goswami had allegedly paid the US $12,000 to former CEO of BARC, Partho Dasgupta for two separate holidays and a total of Rs 40 lakhs over a period of three years for manipulating BARC ratings in favor of the Republic TV.  Dasgupta has given a handwritten statement to Mumbai Police in which he claimed that Arnab had paid him. This was according to the supplementary charge sheet filed in the TRP scam case. 

Dasgupta's statement reads, "I worked with my team to ensure manipulation of TRP ratings that made the Republic TV get to number one rating. This had continued from 2017 to 2019 and towards this, in 2017, Arnab Goswami had personally met me at St. Regis Hotel, Lower Parel, and given me 6000 dollars cash for my France and Switzerland family trip, also in 2019, Arnab had personally met me at St. Regis hotel and given me 6000 dollars for my Sweden and Denmark trip. In 2017, Arnab met me at ITC Parel Hotel and given me Rs 20 lakh cash and also given me Rs 10 lakh in 2018 and in 2019". 

Dasgupta's statement had further triggered outrage against Arnab who has been facing unprecedented flak from across the nation with many activists and opposition parties had strongly urged to take action against him and some had questioned the Center on why it hadn't shown its face against Arnab for breaching national security. The questions such as 'How he attained the confidential information of Palakot strike', 'Who helped him to brave the consequences and give a confidential data, 'What else have gone to Arnab to help him to stay in the spotlight', and 'Who else has involved in the scam', have been lined up before Arnab...but this time, the nation would be hosting 'The Nation Wants to Know' with Arnab facing the nation to answer on why he comprised the national security of the Indian Republic for the TRP gains of his Republic TV.
