Are you in Chennai? Know here on COVID-19 cases and where your zone stands!

Despite the containment efforts and installations of the preventive measures by the Greater Chennai Corporation, the city has been emerging as the epicenter for the COVID-19 spread as the cases have been surging each day.

The corporation has been identifying the zones based on the number of affected cases and mapping the containment areas in these zones by restricting the movement of the people to contain the spread of the human to human transmitting virus. The more the increase in the cases, the more the increase in the containment areas.

According to the reports, Chennai has 587 containment areas across its 15 zones as of Sunday. On May 9, the city had 513 such areas and in a day, the number of areas increased by 74 and the soaring cases would likely put more areas under containment. According to the official data shared by the Chennai Corporation, Royapuram has more COVID-19 cases and it also has more containment areas in the city. 

 

Royapuram is marked as Zone 5 and it has 105 containment areas and as of Tuesday - May 12, this zone has reported 742 cases. Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, which falls under zone six, has 95 containment areas - the highest after Royapuram. Teynampet - zone nine, falls next to Thiru Vi Ka Nagar with 71 containment areas while Tondiarpet - zone four has 46 containment areas. 

Zone eight (Anna Nagar)- 45 containment areas, Zone Seven (Ambattur) - 41 areas, Zone one (Thiruvottiyur) - 29 areas, Zone eleven (Valasarawakkam) - 51 areas, Zone two ( Manali) - 12 areas, Zone three (Madhavaram) - 21 areas, Zone ten (Kodambakkam) - 22 areas, Zone 12 ( Alandur) - six areas, Zone 13 (Adyar) - 21 areas, Zone 14 (Perungudi) - 12 areas, and Zone 15 (Shollinganallur) - ten containment areas. 

As of Tuesday morning, Royapuram has reported 742 cases which is the highest number in Chennai followed by Kodambakkam - 713, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar - 590, Teynampet -458, Valasarawakkam- 379, and Anna Nagar- 34. Alandur which has been marked as zone 12 has reported 46 cases which is the lowest in the city. On Sunday, Special Nodal Officer Radhakrishnan said that the city would see a rise in COVID-19 cases due to targeted testings in Koyambedu and North Chennai clusters. 

 

Radhakrishnan further stated that only two wards out of 200 wards in Chennai have more than 300 cases and 119 wards of the city have less than 10 cases while 60 other wards have reported 10-30 COVID-19 cases. He divulged that the city has 32 COVID-Care centers in which over 750 people are getting treated. On Monday, the city has reported 538 fresh cases taking the total number of affected cases to 4,371 which is about 55- 60% of the total affected cases in Tamil Nadu. Chennai has added more than a thousand cases in the past two days.
