AR Rahman's mother passes away: Condolences pour in for the Oscar winning music director!

Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman's mother Kareema Begum has passed away on Monday due to age-related ailments. In what has become shocking news for the fans and followers of the legendary music director, Kareema Begum was suffering from ailments and she breathed her last on Monday at her residence in Chennai. 

The sudden demise had saddened the fans and fraternities across and beyond the borders with several leaders and celebrities are paying tribute to the departed soul and consoling AR Rahman. The music director shared his grief for the passing of his mother through social media. Taking to social media, Rahman posted a picture of his mother and thousands of his fans are expressing their condolences. 

In many interviews, AR Rahman had shared and divulged how his mother stood by him and nurtured his career in music after the demise of his father. Rahman, whose birth name was Dileep, was raised by his mother after his father Sekhar had passed away when the music director was nine years old. For five years after his father's death, his mother used to rent out his father's musical instruments to win bread for the whole family. 

She refused to sell those instruments when she was asked to, stating that her son Rahman would take care of the instruments. Rahman had shared that it was his mother who made him leave school in class 12 and start his career in music. By calling his mother a spiritual person, Rahman said that she was above him on how her mind worked and how she took decisions. 

As Kareema Beegum was instrumental in raising Rahman to where he is currently, the Oscar-winner had always expressed his love and admiration for his mother. He also shared that he is mostly spending time at his Chennai residence to take care of his mother. In his book, 'AR Rahman The Spirit of Music', the music director had revealed how a seer his mother looked after led him to embrace Sufi Islam. 

AR Rahman's mother was suffering from her age-related ailments for the past few years and she had breathed her last on Monday in Chennai. Rahman's father Sekhar was also the music composer who scored music for 52 movies and Rahman has three sisters and his elder sister is AR Reihana, who is the mother of reputed music director GV Prakash Kumar. After the news of Kareema Beegum broke out, condolences have been pouring in for Rahman as the political leaders and celebrities are expressing condolences to the legendary music director. 

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami, Deputy Chief Minister Panneerselvam, DMK President MK Stalin, celebrities, and fans are paying tribute to the departed soul.
