Another sitting DMK MLA tests positive for COVID-19, becomes the third one in the party!

Amid the containment measures and strategies to curb the spread of the Coronavirus outbreak in Tamil Nadu, the pandemic has got the grounds of spread from the Chief Secretariat to the petty shops as people of all walks of life including common people and legislators doesn't hold exceptional from vulnerability. 

While three legislators of Tamil Nadu had tested positive for COVID-19 earlier, another MLA from DMK party has now tested positive for the pandemic, becoming the fourth legislator in the state and third one in the opposition party. According to the reports, DMK MLA RT Arasu (48) has tested positive for COVID-19 and he has been getting treated in a private hospital in Chennai.

Arasu has been representing Cheyyur constituency in the assembly. Cheyyur sits on the Chengalpattu district, which has been one of the worst-affected COVID-19 districts in Tamil Nadu and the areas that fall under the limits of Chennai police in the district have been under the complete lockdown in the wake of the rapid spread of the virus.  

DMK President MK Stalin has issued the conformity on the developments that another party's MLA has contracted to the virus. The state opposition leader Stalin took to Twitter and wished the legislator a quick recovery from the infection and to carry out his public work.  

 

The virus-hit MLA Arasu has become the third legislator in the party to get affected and fourth in the legislative assembly. Earlier this month, DMK's J Anbalagan and Vasantham Karthikeyan tested positive for the virus while ADMK's MLA Palani had also been contracted to the virus. While J Anbalagan has died due to the infection on June 10, the rest two have been getting treated. 

The reports stated that all these four MLAs belong to the northern districts of the state, which are most affected by the virus. J DMK's Anbalagan was the MLA for Chepauk in Chennai, Vasantham Karthikeyan is the sitting MLA for Rishivandiyam in Kallakurichi district, and Arasu is the MLA fro Cheyyur in Chengalpattu. ADMK's Palani has been representing Sriperumbudur in Kancheepuram district.

The Chief Secretariat has been under tight scanner after some of the staff attached the government's machinery had tested positive for the virus. Earlier last week, one of the private secretaries of Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami had succumbed to the virus infection.
