Along with the grounds of peaking cases across the state, Tamil Nadu has been reporting the spread among the state lawmakers, including senior ministers. About a dozen legislators of the state assembly belong to both the ruling ADMK and Opposition DMK parties have tested positive for the COVID-19 viral infection so far.
In line with that, DMK MLA Ganesan has, on Saturday, confirmed to have contracted to the viral infection. Ganesan has been representing Tittakudi constituency of Cuddalore district in the assembly and he has become the fifth legislator of the DMK party to have spelled positive for the virus after J Anbalagan, KT Arasu, Masthan, and Vasantham Karthikeyan.
According to the reports close to the development, DMK MLA Ganesan has been getting treated under isolation in a private hospital in Porur, Chennai. He has tested positive for the infection days after Tamil Nadu Minister Nilofeer Kafeel contracted for the virus. So far, four sitting ministers of the state spelled positive amid the containment measures.
Tamil Nadu Minister for Higher Education KP Anbalagan, Electricity Minister Thangmani, Cooperation Minister Sellur Raju, and Labor Welfare Minister Nilofer Kafeel have been tested positive for the pandemic of which KP Anbalagan and Sellur Raju have got discharged while the rest two are under treatment.
Minister Sellur Raju has discharged from the hospital on Friday after he battled the viral infection. He was admitted to the MIOT Hospitals in Chennai on July 8 and the hospital said the minister has made a complete recovery from the infection and discharged on Friday - July 17.
Of these dozen legislators, DMK's J Anbalagan has succumbed to the virus on June 10, becoming the first legislator in the state to die due to the pandemic whereas the other legislators have either discharged or getting treated at the hospitals.
On Saturday, Tamil Nadu has reported a highest single-day spike of 4,807 fresh cases along with the unprecedented rise of the single-day death toll by reporting 88 fresh deaths. As of Saturday, Tamil Nadu has reported 1,65,714 cases so far of which 49,452 are active, 1,13,856 have been recovered, and 2,403 had succumbed to the virus.
