Another sitting ADMK MLA tests positive for COVID-19! So far, 18 MLAs got affected

Despite the prevailing containment measures and restrictions, the COVID-19 viral infection has got the grounds of rapid spread in Tamil Nadu which has been emerging disturbing developments in the government's machinery as the sitting legislators and ministers have also been getting infected to the pandemic. 

According to the reports, ADMK MLA of Peravurani constituency Govindarasu is the latest legislator to get spelled positive for the virus. Govindarasu has tested positive for the viral infection on Wednesday and he has been getting treated at the local hospital under isolation. 

Govindarasu is representing Peravurani constituency of Tanjore district in the current assembly and with him, 18 MLAs of both the ruling ADMK and opposition DMK parties, including ministers, have been tested positive for the virus so far in Tamil Nadu. On Wednesday, DMK MLA Thangapandian, who is representing Rajapalayam constituency, was also tested positive for COVID-19.

So far, four ministers in Edappadi Palaniswami's cabinet - Higher Education Minister KP Anbalagan, Electricity Minister KP Thangamani, Co-operation Minister Sellur Raju, and Labor Minister Nilofeer Kafeel have confirmed to have contracted to the virus. 

Of these 18 MLAs, DMK's J Anbalagan has succumbed to the virus on June 10, becoming the first legislator in the state to die due to the viral infection while the rest of the lawmakers have either getting treated or discharged from the hospitals.  

Amid the containment measures, the viral infection has been threatening the people of all walks of lives and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami had gone testing last week and his results spelled negative to the infection. On Wednesday, Tamil Nadu has reported 5,849 cases through which the state had crossed the mark of 5,000 single-day tally for the first time since the outbreak.

As of Wednesday, Tamil Nadu has reported 1,86,492 cases so far of which 51,765 are active, 1,31,583 have been recovered, and 3,144 had succumbed to the virus.
