The Coronavirus pandemic has been shaking the Tamil Nadu government's machinery as the outbreak has got the grounds of rapid spread in the Chief Secretariat and among the legislators, causing the disturbing developments for the state government amid the containment strategies.
Sitting DMK MLA Vasantham Karthikeyan is the latest one to spell positive for the virus and the legislator has become the second one in the party after J Anbalagan. According to the reports, 43-year-old Karthikeyan and his mother had tested positive for the pandemic and they have been getting treated at a private hospital in Coimbatore currently.
The legislator could have contracted to the virus from his family members. Earlier, his wife and daughter had admitted to a private hospital in Perambalur district on June 12 after they developed positive symptoms for the infection. The duo was put to the COVID-19 testing, which returned positive following which the legislator and his seven family members were taken under isolation.
Legislator Vasantham Karthikeyan and his mother confirmed to have contracted to the virus after their results spelled positive on Saturday. DMK's MLA, who is representing Rishivandiyam constituency in the state legislative assembly, has become the second one in the party to hit by the virus.
According to the reports, Vasantham Karthikeyan has become the third legislator in Tamil Nadu to test positive for the virus after DMK's J Anbalagan and ADMK's Palani. Last week, Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister KP Anbalagan was said to have tested positive for the virus, which further disturbed the government as he was the first to test positive in Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami's cabinet.
While the reports close to the developments said that the senior minister was tested positive and getting treated at a private hospital in Manapakkam, Chennai, KP Anbalagan denied that he was affected by the virus and the state government has maintained the denial.
The senior minister was the in-charge of the Chennai COVID-19 taskforce during which he observed close contact with the other senior ministers. DMK President Stalin said that he had contacted MLA Vasantham Karthikeyan. By citing that the MLA is enthusiastic, Stalin said that he should recover soon and serve people.
DMK MLA J Anbalagan was tested positive for the virus earlier this month and he succumbed to the virus on June 13, becoming the first state legislator in India to die due to the infection, while ADMK's MLA Palani has been getting treated in MIOT Hospital in Chennai. June month has been tough for the government as the cases have been peaking and staff members attached to the Chief Secretariat getting tested positive. Last week, one of the private secretaries of the Chief Minister had succumbed to the virus, exhibiting the rampant spread of the virus.
