Another DMK Minister tests positive for Covid-19: Becomes second minister to contract the pandemic in a week!

DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Minister P Moorthy has tested positive for the Covid-19 pandemic and he has become the second minister to contract the pandemic within a week after his cabinet colleague SS Sivasankar. Moorthy currently represents the Madurai East constituency in the assembly and has been serving as the Minister of Commercial Taxes, Registration and Stamp Duties in MK Stalin's cabinet. 

According to reports, Moorthy has been confirmed to have contracted the pandemic on Friday - January 21 and he has been isolated himself at his home. The development has come when Tamil Nadu has been reporting over 20,000 Covid cases every day for the past few days. Several DMK leaders have expressed their wishes for Moorthy for a speedy recovery. 

Earlier this week, Tamil Nadu Minister SS Sivasankar has tested positive for Covid-19 for the second time in eight months. He has quarantined himself at his residence and made an appeal to those who met him recently to isolate and get tested. Sivasankar, who is among the club of first time ministers, has taken to social media and said that he had contracted the pandemic and has mild symptoms. 

Sivasankar, representing the Kunnam constituency as a DMK MLA, has been serving as the Tamil Nadu Minister of Backward and Most Backward Classes Welfare in MK Stalin's cabinet. A native of Ariyalur, he has also been serving as Ariyalur district DMK Secretary. He has tested positive for the pandemic, days after the 2021 assembly polls last April and in eight months, he has now tested positive for the infection for the second time. 

According to the state health department, Tamil Nadu has reported 28,561 fresh Covid cases, 19,978 discharges, and 39 deaths on Thursday. Overall, the state has recorded 30,42,796 cases so far as of Thursday of which 1,79,205 are active, 28,26,479 were discharged, and 37,112 had succumbed to the viral infection. Amid soaring cases, the state has conducted its first special camp for Covid-19 booster vaccines on Thursday.
