India has reported its first COVID-19 case on January 30, 2020, and in the span of four months, the country has got placed in the list of top ten worst hit COVID-19 countries amid rolling out the strategies and measures to fight the global pandemic. The successive and sharpest spikes in the number of cases have contributed the country to surpass the total count of Iran and China -which has introduced the epidemic to the rest of the world in late last year.
India has attained the never-wished feat after the reporting 6,977 fresh cases on Monday. Through the reporting, the country has witnessed the highest single-day rise for the fourth consecutive day. According to the Union Health Ministry, the country has reported 1,38,845 cases so far as of Monday morning with 4,021 deaths amid imposing what has become the biggest COVID-19 lockdown to curb the spread.
With the current state, India stands at the tenth place in the list of the worst affected countries and it got into the top ten list by surpassing Iran's count, which has reported 1,35,701 cases so far. India has recorded 154 fresh fatalities in the last 24 hours till Monday 8 am and the sequel of the increase in positive cases has let the number of the active cases surge.
According to the official figures issued by the Health Ministry, the count of active cases in India stands at 77,103 as of Monday morning and 57,720 people have been recovered from the infection. The Ministry stated that the country has recorded 41.57% recovery while the global average of recovery stands at 41.84%.
Of the 154 deaths recorded in last 24 hours till Monday, Maharashtra has accounted for 58 deaths followed by Delhi (30), Gujarat (29), Madhya Pradesh (9), Tamil Nadu (8), Uttar Pradesh (6), Telangana (4), three each from Rajasthan and West Bengal, two from Bihar, and one each from Punjab and Uttarkhand.
At the national stage, Maharashtra stands top on the table of the number of fatalities with 1,635 deaths so far. Gujarat comes second with 858 deaths followed by Madhya Pradesh which recorded 290 fatalities, West Bengal has 272 deaths, Delhi has reported 261 deaths, Rajasthan falls next with 163 deaths, Uttar Pradesh with 161, Tamil Nadu has recorded 111 deaths while Andhra Pradesh has accounted for 56 deaths nationally.
Falling at next places, Telangana, Karnataka, and Punjab had reported 53,42, and 40 deaths respectively. The Health Ministry has revealed that over 70% of the deaths recorded in the country are due to co-morbid conditions where the deceased had existing ailments. As far as the total number of cases is concerned, Maharashtra has the most number of cases in the country with 50,231 cases.
Tamil Nadu falls second with 16,277 cases followed by Gujarat (14,056), and Delhi (13,418), and these four states have crossed 10,000 tally and have played a larger role at the national stage with the consecutive sharpest rises in the cases nationally amid the nationwide lockdown and restrictions.
The top ten worst-affected countries are the United States, Brazil, Russia, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Turkey, and India. According to the reports, India would likely surpass Turkey's tally in another four days if the country's graph stays upward with soaring high cases.
Last week, the Health Ministry said that 7.9 people per lakh population in India has been affected by Coronavirus (COVID-19) so far which, according to the ministry, is relatively low while compared to the global average which stands at 62 people per lakh population. India accounts for a 0.24 mortality rate per lakh population which has been lower than the world average of 4.2 people per lakh population. However, the current state has alarmed the government to grip up the fight against the pandemic to flatten the curve of COVID-19 affected cases.
