Besides being the resting place of four influential Tamil Nadu Chief Ministers, Marina Beach has always been one of the iconic coastal lines as the world's second-longest beach would be one of the top tourist destinations in India that attract millions of tourists per year. Adding another feather in its magnificent cap, Marina Beach has unveiled its latest attraction and this one is for selfie freaks.
As one of the must-explore destinations, the state governments of Tamil Nadu are working on their bids to attract more people to the historical coastal lines, from maintaining good sanitary measures to promoting the beach with the areas of attractions and leisure.
The latest one is 'Namma Chennai' which is the selfie point installed in Marina Beach. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami has on Thursday inaugurated the selfie point and dedicated the latest attraction to the city.
The typographic selfie point has the words 'Namma Chennai' (Our Chennai) and it stands on a three-foot pedestal and towering about 10 feet in height. The typography at the selfie point will be accompanied by other arrangements around it including a seating area opposite the structure.
The selfie point has been installed opposite Queen Mary's College and months time, the selfie point was unveiled by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister in the presence of senior ministers and leaders of the ruling party.
For all the selfie freaks, they have got a perfect selfie point other than the beach shores. The government has installed the selfie point at the cost of Rs 24 lakh and while the structure was supposed to get completed earlier last year, the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown triggered by the outbreak had deferred the process. Edappadi Palaniswami has inaugurated the selfie point, a day after the inauguration of the memorial of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
Earlier last month, a corporation official said that the city's civic body is also looking to create another landmark on the beach, apart from the selfie point, that will resonate with both city residents, particularly the young people and tourists to the city who never fail to visit the Marina Beach. The official stated that the construction of such structures would help in encouraging a sense of ownership towards the city and build civic responsibility.
