Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has on Thursday - May 5 announced that all the DMK MPs in both houses of the Parliament will donate their one month's salary to the Sri Lanka relief fund to extend the humanitarian aid for the people of Sri Lanka who are suffering from the worst economic crisis in the island nation.
The parliamentarians have come forward to donate to the relief fund after an appeal made by the Chief Minister. According to reports, the money will be donated to the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund. In an official statement, the party has on Thursday said, "The DMK's Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members will contribute their one month's salary to the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund."
On Tuesday, the state government has announced the bank details of the Chief Minister's Relief Fund to which the money can be donated to aid the people of Sri Lanka. MK Stalin has appealed to the Tamil Nadu people to contribute generously to help the people of Sri Lanka, who are in distress following the economic crisis that has made a disastrous impact on their lives.
He asked the people to donate to the fund to buy essentials and food for Sri Lanka. The DMK had already announced a contribution of Rs 1 crore to the Sri Lankan relief fund while ADMK's Panneerselvam had said that he would donate Rs 50 lakh from his personal savings. It is pertinent to note that recently, the Tamil Nadu government has received support when Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had allowed the state government to collect funds and materials for sending to Sri Lanka.
