Following the desecration of Dravidian Stalwart Periyar's statue, the unidentified miscreants had now desecrated the statue of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister CN Annadurai in Kuzhithurai, Kanyakumari district, which had drawn major flak from the Dravidian leaders who had demanded the apprehension of the responsible people behind the act.
According to the reports, a saffron cloth was tied around the statue in Kuzhithurai with items like dried flowers and old bulbs on the pedestal on Thursday. After spotting the statue, the functionaries and cadres of the DMK and MDMK parties had gathered around the spot and urged police to initiate action against the miscreants.
Later, the saffron cloth and the items were removed from the statue. However, the political leaders of the state had raised their voices against the act and stated that the miscreants must be detained and booked under the grounds of the Goondas Act.
DMK President Stalin took to Twitter and said, the miscreants have tied a saffron cloth around Perarignar Anna statue in Kanyakumari. Their actions and thoughts are to go absolutely low and since they don't have anything special to show their identity, they are showing violence against the demised scholars. Stalin further urged to arrest the culprits. The DMK party functionary in Kanyakumari met with the district Superintendent of Police and demanded a probe into the matter of saffronizing Annadurai's statue.
PMK leader Ramadoss demanded to book culprits and those who instigated them under the Goondas Act while AMMK leader Dhinakaran had condemned the act of saffronizing CN Annadurai's statue.
Recently, the statues of Thanthai Periyar in Coimbatore and Erode had desecrated by the members of pro-Hindu outfits. The miscreants were arrested and the Coimbatore police had slapped the National Security Act against the member who vandalized the statue in Coimbatore by pouring saffron paint.
