Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami's well-packed Delhi tour has gained national attention as beyond the meet of inviting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate Jayalalithaa's memorial, the meet has also drawn politics, including the Tamil Nadu elections and VK Sasikala's release, with Edappadi Palanswami strongly vowing that there is no possibility that Sasikala would be joining the ADMK post her release.
Throwing a major shock to Sasikala ahead of her release, Edappadi Palaniswami, who is also ADMK's Co-convenor, had stirred speculations through his announcement that came shortly after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Tuesday. The Chief Minister has gone to Delhi on Monday for a two-day visit to invite the Prime Minister to the inauguration of Jayalalithaa's memorial in Chennai. On Monday, the Chief Minister met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and invited him for the inauguration ceremony of the memorial.
It was speculated that the Chief Minister and Home Minister had discussed politics ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly polls, Edappadi Palaniswami had asserted that he didn't discuss politics with Amit Shah. On Tuesday, the Chief Minister met Narendra Modi amid being surfaced with heated speculations that Edappadi Palaniswami will particularly speak to Modi about Sasikala's role in politics. The meet has gained national attention as it was keenly watched by various political leaders.
Following the meeting, Edappadi Palaniswami had addressed the reporters in Delhi during which he said that he had visited the Prime Minister to invite him to inaugurate Jayalalithaa's memorial and other projects in Tamil Nadu. By citing that the Prime Minister had accepted his invitation, he pressed that there were no political discussions during his meet with the Prime Minister. Edappadi Palaniswami had thrown a shock to Sasikala in his bid to signal the party and the state that he's no more worried about the release of the jailed leader.
Stirring a strong debate, the Chief Minister said that there is no possibility that Sasikala would be joining the ADMK after her release. Edappadi Palaniswami further stated that Sasikala was in the ADMK when the party was led by Jayalalithaa. He added that Sasikala is currently not in the party and her release will not change anything and said that most of the people with TTV Dhinakaran's AMMK have already come back to the ADMK. The Chief Minister has spoken for the first time publicly about Sasikala and speculations around her on the possible political resurgence.
Sasikala, who was the closest aide of late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, has been serving her four-year prison sentence in Bengaluru's Parappana Agrahara jail since February 2017 after she was convicted in the Disproportionate Asset Case in which Jayalalithaa was the first accused. Amid strong speculations, Sasikala is expected to get released on January 27. Tamil Nadu is ten days away from witnessing her release and her comeback has been spelled with expectations that it would cause a political storm within the ADMK party.
As the party prepares for a fresh intra-party tussle, the top leaders had recently issued a warning to the party members not to support Sasikala after her release. When her release is expected to change the political wind in the state, Edappadi Palaniswami has been building up the party under his full control to showcase him as the successor of Jayalalithaa. As the upcoming assembly polls would be the first state elections for Edappadi Palaniswami as the Chief Minister, he has been making moves to emerge victorious amid incessant challenges and troubles.
One of such trouble for Edappadi Palaniswami is Sasikala's release and to ensure that her release won't adversely affect the party, he has been unfolding the measures that the party won't get drifted and he won't lose control. While it was anticipated that the BJP would push the ADMK to accept Sasikala to defeat DMK in the elections, Edappadi Palaniswami's statement that Sasikala won't be joining the ADMK after her release has come shortly after he met the Prime Minister.
Recently, RSS-BJP Ideologue and Editor of Thuglak Magazine S Gurumurthy had advised ADMK to accept and align Sasikala into the party to defeat DMK. However, his remarks to accept the expelled leader wasn't pleased by the ADMK leaders with many flaying Gurumurthy for his remark to showcase him as a godfather and Chanakya in politics.
