After engaging in a fight with his girlfriend, a 26-year-old man has killed himself in a hotel in Chennai on Saturday and his death has brought trouble for the hotel owner as he has been booked by the police department for reportedly letting the couple to stay in the hotel room by breaching the lockdown norms, as the government has restricted the lodging services in hotels in the city in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak.
The man has committed suicide on Saturday and based on the complaint filed by the deceased's uncle, the police had registered a case against the owner on Monday. According to the reports, the man was identified as Saravanan, who lived in Vembuli Ammal Temple street in Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai and he belonged to a fisherman's family and was working as a data entry operator.
He had a girlfriend, who is 19-year-old and pursuing fashion technology. She is also a model and after Saravanan and his girlfriend an issue and dissimilarities in their opinions, Saravanan took her to a hotel in Kamarajar Nagar with the view of resolving the issue. Adnan Ali, who is the owner of the hotel, had permitted the two as he is close to Saravanan.
They came to the hotel on Saturday and moments later, the mission to resolve the issue was ended up with a fierce argument between the couple following which Saravanan, who was reportedly drunk, killed himself by jumping from the first floor of the hotel in front his girlfriend. Shocked for a moment, his girlfriend took him to a nearby private hospital.
He was then rushed to a private hospital in Adyar for further treatments. However, he was declared dead shortly after he was admitted and his body was sent to the Royapettah Government Hospital to perform an autopsy. After his death, his uncle lodged a complaint in the police department after which the police started the investigation.
On Monday, the police had booked a case against the hotel owner for permitting the couple to stay despite the government has barred the lodging services as part of the lockdown. The police had registered Adnan Ali under sections 269 -the act of negligence likely to spread the infection, section 271 -disobeying the rules of the government under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and he has also been booked under section 3 of the Tamil Nadu Epidemic Diseases Act for breaching the restrictions.
